MPEG 4 Problem

I'm trying to edit MPEG 4 files from my Sony Net Sharing Cam that come up as MP4 files. I try to import a MPEG 4 files and it says it cannot read file. I haven't updated the software yet I just installed. I got Edius Neo so I could edit MPEG 4 or MP4 files. I don't know exactly what to do right now.

You will probably need to install the software that came with the cam to ensure the proper codec is installed before Edius will recognise the codec.

Do you happen to have some more info on the actual format shot by the camera - MPEG-4 comes in many 'flavours' and as such, it may not be supported by EDIUS.

If you have a sample clip, that might be useful too.

It records in MPEG 4 and the files come up as MP4 files. They come up as MP4 Files on my computer and none of my other video editing programs are able to edit the files from my Net Sharing Cam. I thought MP4 files would be supported by this software and wondering what the problem is.

Did the camera come with any software? Usually the included software can convert the video to another format.

It comes with PMB Software in the Camera so when you hook it up to the USB Cable you can upload directly to Youtube or Crackle. On my computer they like .mov files read as .MP4 files. I tried some .mov files and they can be imported and work just fine with Edius. I haven't updated the software and don't know if I need any extra plugs in's. I would think this Edius Neo software could edit .MP4 files it isn't that old of software.

It isn't "that" new either. :) MPEG-4 is a bit of a amorphous thing. Still lots of different flavors and packaging, so it's still a bit iffy.

As you've found, if it's wrapped in a QuickTime MOV and QuickTime for Windows can read it, EDIUS will usually take it though.

The Files come up as .MP4 Files from my Net Sharing Cam. I have an older Kodak Camera that shoots movie clips in .MOV format which my Edius Neo reads just fine. It's the .MP4 files i'm having a problem with and I don't want to have to use software to convert the file. I don't want to degrade the quality of the video at all by having to convert the files. I already have using free converting software so I could edit the clips in my other programs. I don't want to hassle with have to converting all the files before I can use them. I also don't know if updating the software to the newest version would help or not.

The files codec are MP4V. I used the G Spot for finding the codec and what type of file it is. it said MP4V for the codec. Under container it said the files are MPEG 4 (.MP4) files for PSP. I don't know all exactly what it said under the G Spot Program but hope this helps.

GSpot is saying it's an MPEG-4 video stream... of course we already knew that. But exactly what flavor (parameters) that MPEG-4 video stream is remains to be seen.

Will they load into QuickTime?
