  • PowerDVD and Edius 4.61

I tried to put Power DVD 8 onto my E4/NXe system. It seems that any version I install creates an error message whan I play a DVD but NOT a media file.

Seems Edius related - does not happen on identical System with Storm/E3.6

I had PowerDVD8 on my 4.61 PC and it worked fine, apart from the fact that it has become bloatware and requires constant internet access and constantly wants to review my movies and all sorts of crap, like asking if you wish to resume or start from beginning, I NEVER WANT TO RESUME

so I uninstalled it and installed PowerDVD7 and I am happy

I also tried Corel WinDVD but its playback drops frames on a regular basis, very noticeable during camera pans

uninstall powerDVD8 and then clear the temp folder and install it again, then it should work

Have you considered turning the prompt off? There's a checkbox in the dialog that asks you if you want to resume or start from the beginning. You can also set your preference in the Configuration -> Player dialog.

yes, I have done this in PowerDVD7 and it works perfect

in PowerDVD8, you can't disable this feature, I wrote to support and they told me that I can't disable it and that I also can't disable this totally stupid Movie Remix rubbish

PowerDVD5 was the greatest player ever, it opened all movies at their native pixel resolution

all versions after that fail to do so, that software has gone downhill

aha, maybe I need to upgrade

what about the size of the movie when you open it? does the player open according to resolution of the movie like PowerDVD5 did or does it open at an incorrect resolution like 958x522 etc

seems to open to the size of the movie Anton, I have it set to open at full screen but this can be changed in the settings, I have just installed 2 ATI 4870 Graphic cards in crossfire mode, and played back a Blu ray in full HD no problems.

                        cheers

Hey Steve, how are the ATI 4870 cards going? Can you get true HD out of the HDTV port yet?

in my case, all standard def DVD's made from Edius open at the wrong size in PowerDVD8 but they open perfect in PowerDVD5 or earlier

so the problem is not an Edius problem

and sorry for hijacking thread DD, I am done now
