Recovering a Deleted Bin File

to KH... I knew exactly what I was doing when I chose to delete the file. But had no idea that if I deleted a 10 second clip (file) from the bin that the entire master clip would actually be deleted. Now I know.

Delete File will delete the source file, regardless of whether the clip is a subclip or the entirety of the source file's content.

Delete (without file) just removes the reference from the Bin.

Problem solved but not as easily as I expected.

Yes, I needed to recapture the original clip from tape again.

The problem was that I had started capturing the clip (when I had first loaded it) sometime after the clip actually began. There were two minutes of black in the auditoreum where the performance took place, so rather than capture two minutes of black, I started capturing the clip a few seconds before the show began.

Back to the deleted clip problem, I assumed that if I recaptured the clip, Edius would identify the timecode and match up my EDL on the timeline. But because the recaptured clip did not start on the exact frame as the first capture, everything on the timeline was off by 28 frames.

Luckily, the deleted bin clip with the diagonal lines still told me when the timecode started and ended. It was 28 frames off from the recaptured clip. I needed to recapture again, this time matching up the clip to the exact same starting timecode as the first capture.

Problem solved.

Is there aan application setting somewhere that will allow the timeline clips to be identified by the clip timecode? In this case the clips were identified by the duration of the clips.... requiring that the master clip begin at the exact frame as the one I deleted.

Recapture the source footage, via the Restore Offline Clips dialog window, and it should be fine.

And be careful, in future. :)

I am editing a stage performance and captured one long 90 minute video clip into the Bin. From there I edited the project, cutting it into hundreds of short clips. At the conclusion of the project I wanted to create a new sequence of highlight clips and I was copying and pasting several short highlight clips into the bin.

I wanted to delete one short (copied) clip that I did not need in the Bin. I hit Delete File instead of Delete. I confirmed that I did want to delete the 30 second clip and suddenly my entire project went offline... the original 90 minute clip was deleted.

I understand the mistake but wonder if it can be corrected. The previously saved projects have the same diagonal lines throughout. The missing video clip is not in the recycle bin. I cannot find anything in the Backup or AutoSave. Any suggestions?

I am going to try recapturing the original 90 minute clip. Will this possibly relink to the missing segments via the timecode... or must I start the project all over again?

This is agony.
