  • Still Image not matching

I am trying to extend a clip by creating a still image from the TL but there is a noticalbe shift in chroma, hue, and luma when it plays from the last frame in the clip where I grabbed still, and the still itself.
I tried bmp, jpg, tga, png, all seem to show same problem.
    Anyone else? any workarounds?
    Thanks

When I do a still frame via crtl+t, I can't see any difference in the chroma, levels, etc. However, if I change the project format (from hdv to sd or visa versa) and use the same still, I see a very big difference. Are you changing the project format? If you are, my solution is to render the entire timeline in hd then drop that file into a sd project.

you could try placing the cursor on the last frame of the clip (zooming in to one frame)cut the last frame of that clip (shortcut c) use the strobe/freeze effect (effects pallette/video filters) set to freeze on both 1st half and 2nd half, set interval and duration to 100, these maybe different on the ntsc system only appears to freeze for a four second duration!

edit: if you want the duration longer, cut at the duration point and use that clip as a cut and paste hope this helps.

I agree with iibw as I don't see any difference with a still (using sd)

      This is using Edius 4.61

thanks.... I'm not changing project. Both clip and project setting is HDV.
I'll try the freeze FX. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm also editing in hdv. When I need to freeze, I zoom into the timeline of the last frame (ctrl+1) then create a still from that last frame. The cursor can't be at the end of the clip, you need to move it one frame to the left of the end. Ctrl+t to create the still, it looks exactly like the video. If you freeze on a moving image, apply the antialiasing filter to stop the flicker.

This usually takes me several steps and it includes photoshop.
              1. Capture the still
              2. Import into Photoshop CS2, or 3
              3. Open a new project with the 1920x1080 or 1440x1080 frame size, if you use 1440x1080 make sure you adjust the pixel aspect ratio.
              4. Drag the capture into the new project
              5. Apply the NTSC filter for odd, then even
              6. I usually adjust the color levels manually otherwise pick the NTSC color filter
              7. Run the flicker remover action
              8. Save and exit and import into Edius.

This is a long process, but you cannot tell the difference if done correctly.

Adding a picture in a transition

I am trying to add a picture to the background of a transition and the transition only has provisions for a color matte background. In the old Rex Edit it was easy to add pictures to backgrounds or the flip side of a an effect. How do you do this in the Edius transitions

whatever you place on a V track below the transition should show up fine as a background during the transition

Make sure that in Settings/Source/ color range for RGB and YCbCr clip are both on super white and see if it helps.

Have you checked the Properties of the Snapshot's image?
I don't understand why, but often I find often I need to change Colour Range setting from Super White to White to get the still image to return back to it's original appearance.

                          I can explain

if your still image that you export has illegal levels, then when placing the resulting image back on timeline, it will look different, because the default setting of "white" for still images assumes that you are using legal levels

I love this default setting, because I can save PP slides as images and place them on the timeline and they will all have legal levels

to avoid this, use waveform/vectorscope and make sure levels are legal prior to creating a still from the edius timeline

                            Hi Anton,

For my work, all I find I need to do is change the setting to White and all is perfect - no need to do anything more sophisticated.
But while I am at it : What is the purpose of Super White vs White ?

Super White allows 0-255 (for non critical non broadcast)

White allows 16-235 for legal broadcast
