Copying Projects

The Default Folder seems to be a quick location to put your Default named project. (Mine is still "untitled")

The beauty of Edius is that it magically names and creates a new folder identical to the project you are creating. So for me the Default Folder goes unused. Copy that project folder and I'm good. I've even edited small projects from a thumb drive.

Consolidate Project is another story. Do not delete your original files until your project transfer is confirmed.

Can I ask - given that Edius asks you to set up a default folder for project files, are you then copying the project file to another new 'master folder' that you will then store all related material in, or are you using the project folder in its default location.

Also regarding consolidate project, I've read enough mixed feelings about it to make me nervous of using it! Thoughts?

It is very difficult to copy the entire project and keep it in order if you do not keep everything in a single folder.

You ave to keep track of all the different files and file types that you used and then have to copy those files from all over the place.

All music, video, VO, photos, Aftereffects projects, the works.

Sub folders are fine, but if everything is in the same folder Edius never goes looking and saves me a lot of time.

Copy the folder to an external drive and all is well.
You can work from the external if you like. Edius is not fussy about drive letters!

Let me add to Rusty's comment about the one folder. As an editor your work is all about putting video clips in order for viewing. Keep that in mind when you set up your project. If you put everything into that one folder you can do anything with it. This includes the Edius project header file information.
This is very important.
It all works much easier from the one file. The only time I use more than one file is if I have a lot of uncompressed information and I put it on one of my network raids.

I need a step by step if you have the patience. Not as computer savy as I should be.
