downsample from HDV to Beta SP

Of course it's possible in Boris...however I haven't used it in a while and I have to be in front of the program to actually tell you how it's done...but I'm sure it will do a better job than EDIUS since it requires rendering.

I've heard that AE does a better job but I never got a handle on that program. I wonder there's somehting in Boris that would work.

Not sure about any other NLE, but when you downscale in After Effects, the quality is much better than EDIUS. The only downside is that you have to render in After Effects while in EDIUS it's realtime.

I agree (I have a couple of Beta SP Cams) but since they are eventually going to insert spots in HD. I would have to reshoot. The downsample is acceptable. Just trying to make it a little better. Appreciate the help.

instead of rendering anything, simply change the project setting to SD D1, play out to Beta SP, when done, change the project back to HD
there will still be some artefacts which is to be expected when downscaling anything
shooting with an SD broadcast camera will deliver a better SD result than shooting with a Broadcast HD camera

I render the clip with speed encoder and drag it into a standard def project. The 'jitter' appears on the monitor before I print to beta. I am using component ins and outs.
The images look good when printed to beta with the exception of the 'zebra jitter'
Thanks for the reply

How are you going to Beta SP? Component via NX/SP? Did you load the HDV clips in a D1 timeline?

downsample from HDV to Beta SP
Taping on a JVC 110u.
I've just upgraded to edius sp and still when I downsample to send the images to Beta SP. The horizonal moves gives a zebra typle jitter. Not the judder I'm used to in 24p native. That's fine. But an annoying type jitter.
Thanks in advance.Tags: None
