NX Cards

Hi,
I just have a quick question about the NX cards, Why do we need them? What I mean by this is if you want to watch HD or SD in reatime on another monitor why don't you just connect another cable i.e. DVI to Component or DVI to DVI and watch the output From your Graphic card other DVI output, What are the benefits of a very dear card (NX) to do the same thing? i.e. just to watch real time that can be done via a good Graphic card. Could some one please explain this as I was thinking of getting the NX card when they have 64bit driver support.

The output from the video card isn't the "true" video signal.

It's not this extreme, but it'd be like having someone take a video camera and shoot the TV instead of getting the true output.

Overscan, color space and other video-centric properties are not guaranteed to be the same coming out of the video card versus.

I don't even know if the big SDI capable Quadro card could reproduce the same image as the NX or SP. What you are buying is a really good line scaler
and RT output with broadcast colors and quality.
I did try this with my Quadro FX 1500 when I first built the system 2 years ago. The FX 1500 was designed to do exactly what you are describing.
I used it for less than a week and ordered the NX.
It wasn't color accurate, it was frame exact, and if a lot of motion was involved I would have multiple video 'ripples' on the screen.

I had used the Rex card since 1997 and was spoiled by the output.
The NX did not disappoint.
I guess if you are happy with the output from the video card, go for it.
I just did not like the view.

The final drivers will be out with the next major release of EDIUS, which will be available When It's Done.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will have to wait, I don't understand why Grass valley don't release beta drivers ect like most companies around the world do so they can get a bit of feed back from the public which always helps with new drivers ect, but as I said I guess I will just have to wait and see if they get 64bit drivers correct or not.

I'm sure there is quality control behind the drivers so don't worry about it :)
Canopus hardware has always had good drivers to begin with....even with the original Storm.

Can you clarify?

I can understand if you have a poor display, but it's still receiving the same signal a 'good' display would get, which is different from the signal you're getting off your graphics card.

The NX card is of little use (in this sense) if you are outputting to anything less than a HD broadcast monitor. Most on this forum (those who monitor HD) would be going to the cheaper LCD panels (like Dell). These screens are only capable of specific levels and their viewing image would be little different between a Quadro/graphics card and the NX
