o.k. I have a strange issue with my Asus Maximus MB. When I start the machine it takes a long time to go through post and if I go into the setup menu everything is ridiculously slow. After windows starts it seems to run fine, which is not normally a issue because I never turn off my p.c.. Now I wanted to fix this problem but whenever I take my computer to work (the only place I can work without interruption) its fine! I tried different keyboards at home different mice the only thing I havent drug into my work is the 2 monitors I use 1 19inch dell and 1 19inch viewsonic. Any ideas?? even though Windows seems o.k. after it eventually starts it does run much better at work.

unplug any USB devices and try a boot
also, how old is your Power supply? maybe your work has better AC voltage and the failing power supply may work better than at home?Anton Strauss

There are no KVM switches setup right now. The machine is on my bench at work purrinn like a kitten. Im going to take it home and see, im starting to think it may be the monitors.
BTW the power supply has crossed my mind this is one that caught fire last year (yes I said caught fire) but my computer shop buddies said it checks out its a 850 watter. plus it runs great at work with the same supply.Randy

I know you already stated that you pulled all your USB devices, but do your moniters provide additional USB hubs? My NEC's each have 4 USB hubs. If I plug a Kingston DataTraveler into one of these hubs the system hangs early in the boot process (well before it gets to the Windows boot). I can plug the DataTraveler in once the system is up and everything works fine.Fred D

It's funny you should meantion that, I THINK I figured it out. I had an old Apple type keyboard plugged into my Viewsonic built in hub which the p.c. sees as a hub plugged into a hub. Also when I was troubleshooting the Apples keyboard was too short so I was using my front USB jacks which it also didnt like. So I got a PS/2 keyboard and a wireless mouse plugged them into the back and all SEEMS fine for now. I lost some conveniance but if it works I dont care. Time will tell.

While cascaded USB hubs (more than one hub beyond the root hub) are supposed to work, I have found in my experience that they tend not to. Sometimes it's a power issue if the hub(s) aren't self-powered, but sometimes the system simply gets confused.
