Use chrominance (or region with chrominance if the color is elsewhere) and key it out. Select "show key" and render that file. In the bin select both the rendered file and the trouble file and rt click and select convert>alpha matte and under the options pick luminance matte invert. You now have a file with an alpha hole in it where the tie is at...put it above the original trouble file only shift it with layout to get the background to fill it with...worked once for me.

Thanks Brandon. I will try layout first.
Were not talking about a large area it annoys me more than anyone.

This can often happen using shotguns.

I have used your method to soften the issue, but now use layout and slightly enlarge and shift the image over and up to eliminate the problem.

Gives a much better result if you can use this method.

    Cheers Vaughan

Can you post a couple of stills showing what it looks like (without region filtered blur)?

    Using Region or Masking Help

I use a Sony HVR-A1 and use in 4*3 mode with the viewfinder croped with semi transparent bars both sides. I shot some footage which i need to use but unfortunately during wide angle shots the tie for my windgag has been recorded in a small area top right corner of the screen (NTG2 long mic). This was not noticed during filming, ? was it visible in the croped area.
I have been able so far to break into small clips ie with or without the offending object and placed a region filter with smooth blur on the inside set to 100 and a soft edge of 21 and normalize on. I am using Edius 3.62
Can anyone suggest a better way of making it less noticable

    Thanks
    John
