I guess it's my only option at this point huh? We're actually thinking of moving to HDV instead of the P2 HD just because of issues like this . . if . . I can just get these two projects out of the machine :o( Thanks

You should be fine, you're not using P2 equipment directly.

But like I suggested, you should probably reinstall EDIUS v4.61 and just see if a codec lost its way somehow..

The material was taken off the P2 cards onto a portable external HDD via a laptop in the field and then that portable HDD material was imported onto an internal HDD on the machine that Edius is on. Thus, the P2 material is in a fold that resides on a 7200rpm SATA dive that is in the machine that has Edius but the Edius machine does not have any P2 drivers.

So . . am I OK without the drivers or ??

If you're reading off the drives, yes I'd install the software.

If you're reading off material that has already been imported somewhere else, and is now on a networked or local drive, it isn't necessary (for HVX material, at least)

I read the "Using the P2" article and noticed that it said that one had to have the P2 drivers installed even though the card was not mounted nor would be. Is this absolutely necessary? I did not install the drivers as I don't off load the P2 on this computer.

Let me know and if that's it well then that is probably the issue?

Definitely a puzzler - HVX is 100% compatible with EDIUS Broadcast - a missing video could be codec related, or the dongle is not present.

Fancy trying a reinstall of the software to refresh the DVCPRO codecs?

not sure it's the most recent 4.6.1 and not sure if this is the trial version on that machine. we got one license and thought that was the one that had it or not.

this material was shot on the hvx200a (not the regular 200) however, we have seen the same with the 200 also so it's not a "a" only issue. also we did shoot some 720x30p and it did the same thing.

Actually, nevermind that - you're using the trial version of EDIUS 4.61 right?

It supports DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra from P2, but does not support VariCam - this is a full version-only feature. I believe Panasonic's 24PN material is treated in the same way as VariCam (as far as EDIUS recognising the video data is concerned).

I'll do some more poking around and see if I can reproduce the 'fault' here.

    Hmm.

What was the footage shot on? (ruling out accidental AVC-Intra confuzzling)

That is correct WHEN it is 1080i material but this particular material is not 1080 30 or 60 frames material but 720 . . that is . . this material is 720pN@24p which will not work in our Avid system. If we had shot it in 1080x1920 we'd be home free as we are normally all the time but this project along with about half a dozen others was shot in this 720p format which is more efficient usage of the card . . however . . undigestable/importable by Avid. Avid simply will not see it at all just says there isn't anything there and Avid has stated that they do not support this frame format while a couple people we know directed us to Edius that will see and use this format and thus why we are here. However, there is this issue with all our Edius projects and thus far we haven't had one exported project short of during the trial period. That is the PAL conversion project that we did for the BBC worked fine to get straight wide screen PAL over to wide screen NTSC (also with a lot of heartache but managable - partly I'm sure just because of our inexperience with Edius :o) but this 720pN@24p is giving us fits . . AND . . we'd like to use it lots because a 16Gb card that will give us less than 17 mins of 1080 DVCProHD will give us 42 mins of 720 DVCProHD with this pN (native) efficient codec.

    Hope this helps.

Actually we don't erase the cards we reformat them 100%. A lot of ppl we know just erase the card but we format them 100% just because of a potential "ghost" (orphan as I think you are saying) as we've heard it termed.

As I say, every Edius project we've had on P2 has been this way and we have multiple P2 cards AND we haven't seen this on the Avid software. I can hear the thoughts . . . then why not use the Avid software? Because our Avid doesn't support this particular efficient format. The 720pN@24p allow the 16Gb card to go from 17 mins to about 42 or 43 mins with virtually no image loss to the average viewer which is quite awesome to us wherein 2 cards is enough time to cover virtually all our field projects without having to offload in the field so to speak.

    Very strange...

    It was just a thought.

Hmm, do you have a "fresh" P2 card you make a few recordings with and check? I'm wondering if maybe somehow clips on the card got "orphaned" and excluded from the indexing so the camera ignores them, but P2 Select picks them up because they still digitally exist.

Yes, I did as you said . . I selected the "todayshowP2-01" and actually just learned that since the last time I was trying to use Edius for P2 and had the guy with the MacBookPro and FCP and saw how he did it in Final Cut (he's trying to sell me on Final Cut to get us to go BACK to Apple) and so I did Edius the same way and got what I have now.

Weird to say the least. Leave it to me to find the most complicated of sorts :o(
