  • storm Question

I still have two storm machines running Edius 4.0 How far can I take them?

Will the storm machines run the latest version of Edius?

I would expect that when and if we go up to 5.0 that they will not be supported. Both machines run fine and currently dedicated to DVD authoring and encoding.

Occasionally I have a SD project from start to finish and I use these machines instead of the HD machines which have HD projects underway.

Is there any information on the improvements or additional functions that will be in 5.0?

I sure hope that the artifacts problem when down converting from HD to SD
will be fixed. It is a shame that we have to go outside of Edius to get rid of the artifacts. That has been a problem for sometime now and to my knowledge has not been addressed.

    Thanks

Well 4.61 is the latest for 4.x and it is pretty stable and has many new features you might find useful.

As per announcement on the forum, Storm will not be supported in newer versions of EDIUS (that is not an incremental update of 4.x, but a new one).

      Hi Ronnie,

I installed 4.61 on my Storm 2 machine - much slower timeline, I re installed 4.03 on it, and it was happy. I guess the machine is a bit slow - 2.8Ghz P4.

        Does it have Hyper Threading?

My storm machine is a P4 3.0Ghz with HT and I have 4.61 on it, it's pretty fast for DV.

Have an old Dual Xeon 2.8 Ghz Workstation (Single Core 533 Mhz FSB Hyper Treading) and running with Edius Pro 4.61 on a DVstorm2 card and all with Simple old fashion E-IDE Drives, still running strong.

Speed wise nowhere compared to the spec's below, and surely not compared to the latest speed monsters, but for DV work it still runs very smooth.

You already have the 4.x licence's so I advice you to Image your boot drive, slap on 4.61 and enjoy the extra feature's .............
