very fragmented drive after capture

  • very fragmented drive after capture

    importing hdv canopus avi s with 4.52 i am getting very fragmented drives. the drive is empty and new , i have done a check disk run on it it seams ok
    does edius split the files for any reason
    any ideas. thanks

    Every file that is captured to a hard disk is fragmented. Some more than others depending on the software. That's why the O/S comes with a defragmentation tool. The type of format, FAT32, NTFS etc bear different results.

      I can't remember the last time I defragmented a video drive.
      Performance never seems to suffer as a result. :~/

        Hey Rusty, that sounds like a pensioner saying he feels 18 years old. :-)
        Of course he does - he just can't remember.
        You should try defragging - most professional studios do it as a matter of routine and there are reams of paper on the benefits even from the very top of the IT world.

          You mean I'm not 18?
          I did putz with defrag when I ran Win2000 and RexEdit. (does that help)

          When I feel the need, I just format my RAID and re-load projects.
          Otherwise I load-em, edit and get-em off!

          You can read all the white papers on defragmentation while you wait for 600GB to get done. (whoops, my project is done!) :~)
