  • opening and E3 project in E4

    Can anyone please help

The sound chip on my computer has just ceased trading and the project which was done in E3 now needs to go into E4 can anyone advise to the transfer route?

Is it not opening in v4?

Typically you start a new project with the same settings as the v3 project, and then import the project.

Thanks for coming back to me.

I have the project on a hard drive taken it to my laptop which has E4.61 and I
have tried toopen the project and it will not open it it is as though it doesn't recognise it.

You're "opening" or "importing" the older project? (There's a difference)

Yes, choose 'Import Sequence' from the File menu.

But given from that error above, I'm wondering if there's more at play - looks very Windows-ish. Have you tried copying the project to a local drive on the laptop?

No I haven't, but I will do, presumably once I have copied over it should open with all the edits and effects in place.

You might need to restore the clips (offline). But it's definitely worth trying.

Many many thanks, I now have it, did what you said, just a few clips need restoring.

That really got me out of a hole.

                      No problem.

FYI, sometimes using portable hard drives to shift projects around can be a problem, because of NTFS - there can occasionally be conflicts with respect to ownership of files, or creation of temporary files on the portable medium.

That's why it's best to copy to a local drive first - permissions are then inherited by the local machine.
