Edius Broadcast won't capture HDV

Edius Broadcast won't capture HD from my XH-A1. I tried another computer different program (Avid Liquid) and everything works fine with the Canon. I have played around with all of the settings in Edius to no avail.
My Sony HC1 captures HD in Edius no problem. At one point the Canon did work with Edius.

Problem solved. But it certainly was not intuitive. I had the camera firewire cable plugged into my computer. I discovered that when the firewire cable is connected to the camera you can not change certain menu items.

In this case I had previously set the HD Down-Conv under the Signal Setup in the VCR mode to "On".

With the firewire plugged into the camera the HD Down-Conv is greyed out and can not be changed. You need to unplug the firewire cable...then you can change the setting!

Your findings are true of all HDV camcorders, and frustrating to say the least.

I like to think that Edius ony accepts what it expects...
If Edius is anticipating HDV and your cam is set to Auto, forget about it!

Lock in HDV or DV from the cam and it works every time.

Yes what threw me for a loop was Liquid captured (although in SD) even when the XH-A1 camera was set to Auto (other choices were HD or SD only. I spent a frustrating bit of time to find out was Edius refused to even recognize the Canon when set to Auto and with the HD SD conversion On. At one point I thought the camera was at fault.
I am not sure if any other newbie to Edius has had this same experience but if not hopefully my "discovery" will help those that have yet to encounter this.

When capturing HD you must:
1. Set the XH-A1 to HD >>>not Auto or SD. Oddly my HC1 can be set to Auto
2. You must set the HD conversion to OFF
3. In order to make these changes in the camera you must disconnect the firewire cable.

Can't capyure HDV from Canon XH-A1

Hello,

Fort several days I've a major problem capturing HDV material from my
Canon XH-A1 to my computer: HP DV7-1199ed P8400 Dual core , 4GB 2x250 Sata Drive , Nvidia9600 , Firwire , HDMI , e-sate ..one week old. State of te art. OS = Vista 64 bits . According to GV this is supported!

I 'am able to Capture DV material and can capture HDV when I put the camera
in converting HDV->DV !

Videomaterial is shot in 1440 x 1080 /50i
The camera shows this info !

Capture setting is: HDV input 1440 x 1080 /50i

Changed signal output from auto to HD etc .
Changed cables etc , put the camera on power , tried other tapes.
Tried all the hardware overlay settings in Edius. Doesn't work

I see the overlay for a second when I start capturing screen stays "gray"
..but Edius is able to control the camera ( start, stop rewind ect)
Is this a Canon problem ...or firewire or .....

Who can help me ?

peter, were you ever able to capture?

i have the same computer/camera.... i think the problem is win64.

im reaching the point of desperation... ive tried locating a new f1394 driver, ive updated everything from hp... no luck.

the really odd thing is, all capturing programs control the cam just fine.

You could try a small capture util called HDV split. Not sure it works with x64 but maybe:

im acctually obsessed with HDV SPLIT... i used to capture everything with it.

it installs perfectly, and controls the camera, but wont capture.

this also goes for premeire cs4. i should mention that it works flawlessly under all other computers not running 64

If you are running XP64 you can expect problems
Eddius 5--Windows® XP Home or Windows® XP Professional (32-bit, Service Pack 2 or later), or Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit, Service Pack 1 or later)
Adobe CS4--certified for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista
Some people said they haven't had a problem with XP64 but neither GV or Adobe support it, I haven't tried HDVSplit with Vista 64, I use it with a Vista 32 laptop for c apturing while working on a desktop
