  • stills get black border after render

    edius 4.6

i have used a number of stills photo's and graphics which have used 3dpip to create motion and before i render they look fine but when i render they then have a black border

the images are psd files on transparent backgrounds from photoshop but other files as jpg end up with the same borders

If you are using 3D pip for sure, go into the panel and uncheck the use colored border option. You might want to turn off lighting as well.....unless you want that effect.
Make sure you do it for the entire playback line. If you change in the middle, it will only affect the middle to the next keyframe.

but why when i try to use drop shadow it gives a broad outline or border from the full frame size of the picture and looks bad

Try adding a video track under your clips, and add a black color matte that spans the entire length. See if that makes a difference.

Try Brandon's suggestion but I believe it is a limitation of 3DPiP. When you turn on light and drop shadow it effects the entire frame and doesn't see the Alpha.

We are aware of this and working on it.

The answer at the moment is to add the drop shadow before bringing the file into Edius.

I am sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

thanks for the advice and hope this problem can be resolved soon as i am really starting to enjoy 4.6 but there are still a number of annoying bugs
does the upgrade to 4.61 help or should i wait for a later version

            other question

is it ever going to be possible to have the clips on the timeline show all thumbs as you can with premiere

i find it a nuisance that there are only two options:
no thumbs and just at the beginning and ends

it's good to see where you are on the timeline and also it would be good to have editing history for reference
