              HD

              Hi,
Just reading Anton's view on Blu Ray, and HD, I had one of the first Blu Ray Burners in the country when released, My view on HD out here (in Australia) is that it will be many many years yet before it is main stream, The way the economy is going out here people just don't and won't spend the money on HD panels and Blu Ray players, and the cost of the media and the Burners ect ect, How can people justify this? I own a very large computer company based on the Sunshine Coast in QLD and people just are not spending, just look at fuel prices, the cost of living, ect. things are only going to get worse before they get better, look at the U.S.A'S economy for example. Me myself and I and many friends just can't justify HD Blu Ray,
One other thing that amazes me to is the people that go out and buy very expensive HD cameras and down grade the footage to SD WHY? I have spoken to many pro's about this and every one say's you can not beat a good SD camera like a (example Canon XL2) instead of down converting HD footage to SD footage, and I have to agree. Anyway as I said earlier the way the country is going with the cost of living ect, who needs HD.

              Cheers
              Steve

P.S I have burnt many Blu Ray disks myself for my own use using Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3 and just honestly can not justify the setup cost of it all. My Blu Ray burns where all done when I was reviewing Adobe Production Premium CS3 for Adobe...

                ...
It's true that in the last 12 months people have just stopped spending on non essentials. I believe this to be true in the US as well, I have that on good information. The end user is just not prepared to pay us (yo, me or Anton) $1000 to make them a Blu-ray of their wedding video. Yes, that is what it would cost (should) to do a good job with all the time and investments made, they wont do it.
However, the corporate world is prepared to pay whenever they can make money out of it, unfortunately, only Hollywood titles can make money with Blu-ray at the moment and so this work bypasses us all.

However (and i don't know when Anton wrote this) in recent weeks there has been a very important development with BD Authoring software with the release of DoStudio from Netblender, it costs just $279 p/month (no commitments) and have features similar to Scenarist BluRay.
RE: matering of projects, go offshore, I can get 1000 Blu-ray pressed in BD case and artwork+ shrink wrapped for under $10,000 including ACCS & insured shipping to AUS.

But no- the work isn't there.

                    To Shueardm

Thats correct the work is not there, as I was saying I have had Blu Ray burners since they first hit the shores, Come to think of it before they where released to the public, the burners do not see much work at all, And yes as you said to people are more concerned with keeping food on the table and a roof over there head at the moment then spending money on products and things that are not needed, and it is happening all around the world my friend, I think we are all in for a big shock soon.... I notice you have a buisness down in SA, just look how things have slowed down over the last couple of months.

                    Cheers
