NHX - E2 Composite

Generic HDV input
Generic OHCI input
Is this correct?

So to capture HDV I use Generic HDV and I have No output on HD monitor as Footage goes in?
Then I switch the settings for the project to get realtime preview - Think the ICON says DVCPRO.....
Is this correct workflow for HDV editing?
Thanks

To begin with, be sure to choose a new project preset that uses an 'NHX-E1' output device (this gives preview). The icon will typically reflect the type of video you plan to edit. (so if editing HDV, choose an HDV NHX-E1 preset - you'll see an HDV icon)
Then as you have deduced, choose 'Generic HDV' for capture of HDV footage via FireWire.
Yeah....just thought I was missing something - as I dont get a picture on my output monitor as I capture.
Can this be done? or is it asking too much of the hardware in realtime?
Cath

I work almost exclusively capturing and editing HDV and have no problem seeing a full size, full quality display on the HDTV while capturing as welll as editing.
The project icons can be confusing, if you hover over them the details should appear, here are mine,
Frame size : 1440 x 1080
Frame rate : 25.00( 25/1 )
Pixel aspect : 1.3333
Field order : Progressive
Audio
Rate : 48000Hz
Sample size : 24 Bit
Channel : 2
Setup
Rendering format : Canopus HQ AVI
Over Scan Size : 0 %
Audio Reference Level : -20.0dB
The only thing I expect you would require different would be upper frame first instead of progressive (which I use all the time now). So I would suggest you will need to use "NHX-E2 HD 50Hz 1440x1080 50i".
Then be sure to choose "Generic HDV-Input" to capture when all should be LIVE!
at least it is for me on Edius 4.54...

GV KH I always;-) use the HQ codec and capture to it on the fly.
Claire - My settings are identical to your posted ones! -
What Icon do you have Claire in the project preset icons when you open up for a new project for the settings you show here.
I have tryed again and I do not have an output on my HDTV while capturing - I only have the 6 x 4 size image on my pc monitor - ?
You know I thought I was missing something - I mean all is well and once I start to edit the YUV output goes live and I seem to have NO issues with the system after this - Just no picture on the HDTV while capturing......
Would like to know what ICON you preset gave you in the start up screen......
Thanks for replies - Cath

Cath, it seems I was sort of mistaken, in a way.. eerm, you see while I do indeed get a full preview on my HDTV while capturing, on closer inspection this turns out to be nothing to do with Edius, heh! It's actually a result of my wiring set up which I was taking for granted and forgetting how it all works.
Cough..
um, er, well you see it turns out that while I am capturing HDV using the setting I mentioned, (BTW it's the green coloured "DVC PRO" icon), the connection to my HDTV at that point in time is erm.. using an HDMI cable direct from my HVR-V1E, ooer, sorry about that, hee, hee!

Eeerm - You are forgiven Claire - sort of makes me feel happy you were mistaken..........If that makes sense....?
SO You do not have preview from the NXe While capture is going on - Only preview on the PC monitor in the Left hand (If using duel monitor in edius) monitor window...........
Then when you have the clips you want it automatically works on ALL the monitors for preview , timeline and right monitor window.
Don't know why this has become an issue as its no big deal to not have full preview on capture!! I mean its not as if you can alter anything is it!
Can you confirm claire?
Thanks..............

Yes, I can confirm all of that.
Cath, I suggest your desire to see the raw footage on the big screen while capturing is worth pursuing, I find it very useful and take notes, spotting things to do it I had not planned for and might otherwise overlook.
It only takes a lead, but then maybe your cam is component out and no HDMI which would mean swapping leads between it and the NX, bit of a pain. With HDMI I can do this monitoring from either cam or NX with one press on the remote control for my HDTV.
Way to go, eh?!?

Good to know I have not missed anything here - Yes Claire I would find it of benefit to see full preview as I capture - However I use a Sony HDV deck, the HDV 15 something or other that does not have a HDMI out BUT it does have YUV out so I could do it IF I used a switcher......
Knee deep in Blu-ray testing at the moment and don't know why this little glitch got hold of me......the system I have runs very sweet and apart from a seagate 500 gig SE drive failing, I have had no problems, I suppose I just wanted to make sure my system was 100% as it should be! and my workflow was ok.
Back to some real work ;-) Huh......
