I have probably print over 200 to tape so far, to my Sony FX1, Z1 Canon A1, no problem, there must be some thing on your end, make sure the camera is unplug then switch it to DV and then back to HDV, then plug in back into the firewire cable, use speed encoder to render your timeline to HDV, the open ts writer and print, I'm in NTSC.

      I would suggest the following:

      1. Render the timeline using SpeedEncoder

      2. Close Edius

      3. Check everything in the HC1 menu which could prevent the camera from recording HDV

      4. Connect the camera to your firewire (editing card) port

      5. Does Windows recognize the camera? (bell sound, device manager)?

      6. Does the HC1 display say 1080i?

      7. Start TS Writer

      8. Load the generated *.m2t file

      9. Export

Before I start shifting things to Reported issues sections, can someone confirm which versions of EDIUS are causing this issue?

So far I have two strikes against v4.24. What about v4.23?

          What about v4.23?
          Kenneally, wasn't V4.23 a Japanese release only?

I'm using 4.24 and the only problem is that when I use speed encoder, it will encode my 2 minutes file just fine, but if I take that file up onto the timeline, it is almost 1 hr. long, even whey my in and out marker is 2 minutes, if I use ts writer to output to tape, it will output just fine, but if I have multiple files it will abort after the first one, probably this is a different issue, but you ask if anybody has problem output using ts writer and so I do when I have multiple files.

Mike, one last question: do you have an overclocked system?

Hi, the deck i'm using is always in HDV mode. Do you mean I should change the output in Edius to DV out, and then switch it back to HDV? If so, this is worth a try..

                thanks!

That was helpful, thanks. I now get tape out only when Edius 4.24 is CLOSED. It's still a bug within Edius though, and should receive attention.

It's still a big disadvantage that I cannot just export to tape from Edius without writing an .m2t file first, and then shutting the program down to use another program.

Why not just make 'print to tape' work like it does in Premiere Pro?

                  thanks

Quite right - v4.22 was released on the Japanese site (which some people downloaded).

The last official non-japanese release was v4.13 - so I need to find out if this issue exists in v4.13 installations.

nope..it's not worth overclocking a quad system (Tyan dual mobo thunder K8WE) 2 dual 2.4 AMD opterons with 6 gig RAM. NVidia 7900GT...figured it's got enough power...

btw Canopus, the Ts writer isn't bug free either...if you load more than one clip it's an even bet whether it makes it to the next clip or not. It drops the output but keeps recording blank, so mostly it's just better to output one clip at a time, which is obviously a nuisance.

I can't figure out why we're having to suffer with all these major bugs, like the busted audio mixer and tape-out, both essential for very basic workflow, so far into the developement of the product. I must say, it is extremely discouraging. If anything can be done here.

                      best,

                      Mike

Mike, since you're the one needing this, I'm glad you got zorro's workaround to work for you in 4.24 but, for what it's worth, I still get the same error in 4.24 even with zorro's workaround:

                        1. Render the timeline using SpeedEncoder - done

                        2. Close Edius - done

                        3. Check everything in the HC1 menu which could prevent the camera from recording HDV - done

                        4. Connect the camera to your firewire (editing card) port - done

                        5. Does Windows recognize the camera? (bell sound, device manager)? - yes

                        6. Does the HC1 display say 1080i? - yes

                        7. Start TS Writer - done

                        8. Load the generated *.m2t file - done

                        9. Export - done, and after a second or 2 I still get on the HC1 Invalid Input Signal

Since you got yours to work with zorro's workaround, I think we must assume I've still got operator error, and we are just left with:

                        A. you can't launch the TS writer from within edius as Help states, and

                        B. the multiple file issues you and Khoi Pham have identified

Yes, that's about it. The TS writer is 'not' reliable...an unfortunate developement (no pun intended)

I'm in a tight spot. I can't get tape out to work on 4.24, or the Mpg Ts writer. I get 'invalid signal' from both my cam and my desktop Sony HDV player from the Ts writer, while the tape out function just gives me an error message straight away.

The TS writer gets the recorders to kick off, but then it shuts down with 'invalid signal'.

I have no problem capturing though...

                            Any ideas?

                            Mike,

In my opinion Speed Encoder is a Junk App. I gave 3 attempts to render a one-hr. segment... each ending in a violent windows crash and automatic machine restart.

Today I tried to render a 4-min. segment and, although it looked and sounded okay on the timeline, received your 'invalid signal' from my Sony.

Procoder at .35 RT is the only way I have to get projects back to tape. (Yes. all my projects archive to tape)

There must me something wrong with Speed Encoder in 4.24, I have no problem with it until now, it render fine for me and output ok but if I take it to the timeline it will freeze my computer, and the clip could be as long as 1 hour even though it is only 4 or 5 minutes long. I try the exact same timeline with ProCoder 2 and everything is perfect. Seems like people are getting different problems with it.

I am just going back to basics from EDIUS Version 3 as I have not had any real problem with "Speed Coder" or "MPEG TS Writer" until now and only minor problems with TS Writer.
Once apon a time TS Writer only needed the files to be loaded and it would write them in sequence with a short break in between,
now it stops after each file to be written and the next file has to be selected and the writing started, only since upgrading to 4.24 I have not found this to be a problem and assumed it maybe something on my machine causing the problem. As everyone seems to be having related but different problem it seems to be platform related or a conflict with another program, no one knows at the moment.
But let me go back to the info supplied on the Web site for editing in HDV for version 3. It quotes render the timeline to a transport stream m2t open MPEG TS Writer load the files and Write to tape.
I have been following this procedure to the letter without a problem and for the record "MPEG TS Writer" opens everytime from inside EDIUS 4.24
As none of this makes sense I will keep watching the results.
I do regularly clean windows registry with a program called "Registry Mechanic" and seems to help.
                                Best regards Barry
