  • Where did my VCR go?

    Hi all,

I have a JVC BR-DV3000 DV deck. For the past few years I have been using edius 3 pro and everything worked fine. Now that I have upgraded to Edius 4 I get the messege "VCR not found. Please check connectin and try again." when I try to print to tape.
I am connected via the firewire port of course, same as before.
What could have changed? Any thoughts?

    Greg

Have you tried disconnecting and then reconnecting the firewire?

      Some same issues

We're using 2 BR-DV3000 vcr's too at our TV station and I must agree that after upgrading to v4.5x, we encountered the following :

1 - From time to time, Edius refuses to capture (batch capture mode). After selecting the source, no timecode or image is displayed.
We have to close/open the vcr to be able to capture.

2 - In some situations, after the IN/OUT is set and you press capture (batch capture) the vcr starts playing, edius shows a blank screen and the timecode is running.Ofcourse nothing is capturing. We have, again, to restart the VCR to capture.

3 - In some rare situations, Edius stops capturing suddenly, we have to press Capture button again.

The setting in Edius is set to ignore errors and keep capture, we use 1 normal firewire and one NX board.
      Same issues on both.
While capturing no other activities are being done on that PC.(we usualy take small break :) )

      Any ideas?

      PS - Not happening with v3.x - v4.2x

Try upgrading to 4.61 and see if the problem still exists

I've had a similar issue with my Sony Dvcam deck as well. I'e always suspected it was something with plug and play as the system doesn't always give the confirm tone.

I've found lately ( with 4.61) that pulling the firewire and them reinserting 'wakes' it up

are you capturing DV50i or DV59.94i?

is your project setting on NX and when you go to capture input settings, are you selecting the NX with DV 50i or 59.94i

We have 2 decks (with clean heads :) )
              Capturing DV 50i only.
One PC is using the NX board, the other OHCI.
All our projects are PAL DV
On the PC with NX board, I am working with OHCI project and when I need to preview on TV (adjust text and so on..), I switch to NX project.
              Upgrading to 4.61 didn't help.

Not a good practice pluging and unpluging without turning the machine off.

Yes, I tried unplugging and plugging. I also tried swapping the firewire cable out with another one. No change.
The wierd thing is, I can import footage from my VCR to Edius; I just can't print to tape, or send it in the opposite direction, from Edius to VCR.

                  That's when the problem started.

maybe the NX driver/firmware failed to update, can you run the NX driver setup.exe and reboot, then try again

also, in device manager/sound video and game controllers, report to us the driver version of the NX

It makes me chuckle how reluctant people (myself included at times) are to contact support... Seems the Internet has made us recluses!

Seriously though, call support. It's much faster to get a back-and-forth on the phone than it is to send and read forum or email responses.

I've just done a couple of rounds with our phone company/internet service provider at about ninety minutes per round, so I was a little gun-shy about contacting another company's "customer service". My blood pressure is high enough.

You're right, Brandon. Although I couldn't find a phone number for Thomson/Canopus Support, I filled out their form and sent it in. VOILA! The next day I had an answer...no, I had a solution! Bryant solved the problem. He said, "Make sure your project setting output format is set to 720x480 59.94i4:3 (or 16:9) 48KHz 2 Ch. (NOT 4 Ch.)" Two mouse clicks later I was back in business.

Bryant should do this for a living!

                        Thanks all.

                          Funnily enough, he does!

                          Glad you could get sorted.
