Just to complete what Brandon wrote:
When using the alphamate function you have to choose the luminance matte since the rendered file will not have an alpha channel....

A less-dynamic way to do this is to render out a file with "Show Key" enabled (so it's a grayscale matte)
Thank you, Brandon! I thought that the 'Show Key' feature is just for adjusting the key. Didn't know that a grayscale matte can be created that way. Cool :)

A less-dynamic way to do this is to render out a file with "Show Key" enabled (so it's a grayscale matte) then select that and the key or fill clip and use the Alphamatte function in the Bin to create a composite with alpha.

the chromakey filter. So, if I move the person to the left, I have to
edit the chromakey filter and apply the rectangle.

I wanted to solve this issue with sequences. Is there an other method to
"layout" the person to the left or to the right ("after" the chromakey)?
You can use Layout tool to select the rectangle area you want (Top left area in Layout tool) and then make the Layout background colour the same colour as your background key colour (blue/green?) using the colour picker.
When chromakey is applied the background will then become transparent as well.
This negates the need to use the rectangle in the chromakey filter.
You can then use Layout tool to position/size the clip wherever you like.

    Hope that makes sense.

it's a workaround but it works for me
Me too. Use it with Xplode Pro Transitions too for say a ripple title over video. All in Edius, no going outside. Takes some time to nut stuff out though!

Thank you very much for your kind answers. Edius 5 will support full
    alphatransparency?

I did try to get the effect he wanted and it would not work.
However, I have used this in the past for titles.
I never used it for video but assumed....
Here is a quick example I did for this.
    http://sixgilldv.com/www/gallery/h264.mov

This was two TMP titles with a Vitascene transition output to QT Animation
with millions + and then the finished file was placed on top of the background .
It works for titles, but works much better in PPRO2 or AE.
What I was told at NAB was that full alpha support would be in version 5.

I use QT with millions + RGB and it works.
Try an alpha channel first to see if it will work for you.
I can do this with my HD timelines.
    Hi Jerry,

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I need.
How can I export an alpha-transparent video? You
    do this with Quicktime?

    Thx

No Markus, that is not possible in Edius. However if you tell us exactly what you want to create we might be able to help you

    Transparent sequence

    Hi,

Is there a chance to transport transparent areas from one sequence to an other?
The "Sequence 1" contains only a VA Track with a cromakey filter.
If I add "Sequence 1" from the Bin to the timeline of "Sequence 2", the keyed
color is just black and covers all tracks below.

    Thank you very much
    Markus
Working...
