Bitrates - now on to BluRay....

OK guys. We've now discussed the SD DVD bitrates, and finally have a pretty good idea of what our limitations are in SD. Seems like a COMBINED bitrate (video & audio) of about 7500 is safe and compatible with most players - old and new. Now, what do you all find as the same, safe maximum combined bitrate is for BluRay? There seems to be few "standards" published for these catagories, so we rely mainly on the valued opinions found here on the forum.

I have authored only a few disks, and I've been using 35Mbps CBR for the video -- no problems so far.

I noticed you started showing up lately...welcome back

I usually use the 30k-35k combined with a 5.1 soundtrack. I create a video file and a seperate 5.1 and stereo file. (I think 54m/bits is the max) Works pretty good.
Have not tried to replicate, but it plays on all of the Sony players without issue. I also do a 'bluray lite' disc for clients that don't want to shell out for the big boy. On that one I go between 15k and 20k with menus on a standard DVD. The drawback here is that motion is the issue. If you have a lot of action, i.e. motion, this is not going to work.

Plus - your "Lite" version ;-) Whats the compatibility like? with the current crop of BR players.....



My local Sony Centre will allow me to pop in and test my BD-R on there current offerings 3 units I think, do you know how compatible the re-writes are comparred to the write-once disc.

If the player will accept avchd mode, it should work. These play on all of the Sony players available. Keep in mind the motion issue. The codec fails with medium to fast motion. For a single layer standard dvd disc you can get approximately 20minutes.
As far as rewriteables, so far I have not had an issue.

Keep in mind that all my product has been NTSC. I do not know how PAL will react.
