MPEG-1 Layer II audio "made it" into the spec for PAL DVD, but not for NTSC DVD... I don't remember why.

So audio-wise, DVD spec requires at that least one audio track be...
NTSC DVD: PCM or AC3
PAL DVD: PCM, AC3 or MPEG-1 Layer II

Or you can check DVD properties with freeware IfoEdit.

The flip side - I am in PAL land so you need to apply this the other way!

I open a PAL project

I capture Pal 720 x 576 25FPS for sd edit

The finished video sits on a PAL timeline IN a PAL project

I use procoder to encode pal timeline to NTSC MPEG2 for NTSC dvd

I use 720 x 480 29.97 fps(IIRC) with AC3 sound (ac3 is more compatible with set top dvd players in the USA) AFAIK........

Pal set top dvd players seem to be ok with Mpeg Layer 2, PCM or AC3 audio so many of you lot are spoilt for choice...........when it comes to PAL!

When I do play the disc in my computer DVD it plays and sounds a little choppy. I'm guessing this is because it's not NTSC?

This doesn't sound good, pc's should play it whether it is PAL or NTSC.

I would take your NTSC edited file and use procoder to convert it to a PAL Mpeg ready for dvd burning.

or just import the mpg file back into Edius and right click on the video(mpeg file)
and click on properties , then go into the video tab and you should see what Anton described above.

you can test yourself with PowerDVD or WinDVD software players

both allow you to display the info

the info should say 720x576 at 25fps and you will be fine

Hi Forum.

I have to send a PAL DVD of a past project to a TV station in India. I have done a search of the forum and believe that I have followed the proper steps to create the DVD.

I have: opened a PAL Project, added my NTSC clips, and then burned the timeline to DVD. All seems like it went well.

I am now wondering how I can tell if the disc is really PAL and if it looks OK. Does anyone have a way to check the disc without playing it in a PAL DVD player - I don't have one. When I do play the disc in my computer DVD it plays and sounds a little choppy. I'm guessing this is because it's not NTSC?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Forum.
