That means you have to preview all the footage and find the good stuff before capturing. That can sometimes take longer than just scrubbing through a clip once captured in a preview window. Sounds like he likes to import footage and then look for good stuff. Scenalyzer made it easy to chop up clips before bringing into the NLE so you have what you want. Was much easier than in Edius.
How I miss Scenalyzer. I have searched high and low, near and far for an app to replace it when working with HQ files. I have found nothing. I am not a fan of the Edius bin and cataloging abilities. I was spoiled on Scenalyzer. If they would just update it to recognize HQ files I would be happy.

Hi Mike & xtz,
Both good ideas, BUT they only work at the capturing stage. I like to capture an entire tape while I'm doing something else and comeback later to tidy up. !!!
Thanks anyway,

For HDV, I can recommend MPEG-VCR V.3.14 - quickly browse your long .m2t's, choose the portion(s) to save and those to get rid of - save without re-rendering. Fast.Leave a comment:

Just use in and out points when you are capturing.
Place an In when you see where you want to start capturing and then place an out at the point where you want to stop.
When you hit the capture button it will pre roll 5 seconds start capturing 2 seconds before the in point and stop capturing 2 seconds afterthe out point and place it in the bin.
You can also use this method to capture directly to the timeline by using the insert ot overwrite button instead of the capture button.
Hope this helps :)

Utility to trim video files on disk ?????
A) Being a pretty poor cameraman and
B) Being afraid I'll miss something vital when documentary filming
Means that I end up using the vacuum cleaner approach to shooting !! As a result I get a lot of large files when I capture, even though I only want a 10 sec shot in the middle.
When working with SD footage I use a wonderful utility called Scenalyzer that allows me trim to my footage after I capture which means that I save on disk space bigtime.
Does anyone know of a utility that would let me trim my HDV video files on the disk (Mix of Canopus HQ and TS) before I bring it in to edit. This is especially important now as I am currently working on an 18 month project and I'm generating a lot of well needless footage?
TIA,
