Wiggle, fast blur, motion blur (tick box, all layers) and some distortion from Sapphire :)
The bar is a trade secret! Just kidding :)
I actually lined up the same image twice (So when it ends on the bottom, the same image is pasted right against it, as to a pattern), added a black solid in the middle, then precomped it. Made a new comp, added the precomp there and enabled "continuously rasterize" and then started to do the rest. If you want I can zip up the project so you can dissect it, though you won't be able to see the Sapphire if you don't have it installed.

Some wiggling, motion tile and blur? But what about the warped frames edge...? Turbulently displaced? Looks cool.

Here is one that took me about 20 mins with minimal tweaking.50% visuals 50% sound :) Add a good sfx and you're set.

I'll have a look but does it work on HD material (being an Xplode PRO? effect?) and did the bottom of the screen show the top of the frame footage using this method?

Not necessarily. You can record at 50 or 60 frames per second, or you can use a slower shutter. I'd rather see true motion blur than a picture that's torn in two.

I agree.

Shooting this material at 50p or 60p would be fine for the motion and would be better for repurposing the footage for the web ect...

apologies, this has little to do with EDIUS however there is an effect that I'd like to see in this edit available in EDIUS. The effect is when they ramp the frame up a little and back down again (what's that called?)

Anyway, I'm so jealous of editors that have great footage like this to work with, they did a great job don't you think?

I created and used this effect back in 04 for my godson's wedding. I did a 'special' for him running 15 mins from stuff I took with a digital still camera. Some stills, some video.
I had a total memory capacity of 256mb only to work with. It was a spur of the moment thought on my part to do this so that's all I took with me at the time.
Amazing what you can get out of 256mbs of acquisition footage!! 15mins!!

Anyway, I used 3D PIP I think to bump the frame up 2/3 screen , back down to 1/3 screen height and then up a little higher than 2/3's and then out completely. To this I added Xplode alpha wipe, and one of my many variations to it, a 'burn through'.

The sum total I was trying to emulate (and it worked quite well) was like film- strip sprocket jam and then the lamp burning through the film.

I do a lot of stuff from within Edius where others would straight away go outside.

I used to do a lot with this effect ie vapour wipe. There are many permutations to it you can make. Some are very arty as I have interpreted the confign options (I think)

The closest I've seen to the vapour effect I can use at times is seen on the SBS Movie Show for those in Au, where they segway using this tranny. I have to say it is a little juvenile by comparison to what you can do with that effect as I have done. Having said that, they use FCP and AE.

Edius can do a lot, but sometimes it takes some thinking through. Then other times you really do have to go elsewhere.

It's one of those "half picture jump + tv distortion" effects. You can do much better things in AE.

I doubt its a preset in AE, so you would have to create it yourself.....doesn't look hard - about 10 frames long...But like I said, with Loop-slide I got something pretty close...

fast pans following an F1 car would look rather terrible in a progressive way

Do you mean when the frame moves up (not the frame rate) and then back down again on the crash? You can get a similar effect using loop slide with a few adjustments....but to get the edge of film look, you might have to use after effects :)

Yes, that's what I mean. Is there a name for this effect? What would it be called in After Effects?
