  • Working with XDCAM-EX in Converting to SD

I am planning to upgrade edius to broadcast version so that i can work with XDCAM-EX format.

I plan record in HQ mode, but my final output will be in SD, until i start doing blu-ray.

On the Sony Z1 you are able to down convert the HDV to SD on the fly when capturing.

    1) How does on convert HQ XDCAM-EX to SD on the fly?

    2) Do you convert XDCAM to canopus HQ files for better real time performance?

You can load HD clips in an SD timeline and edit away. However, I did read in a few other threads that EX1 footage is not downconverted nicely.

No need to convert to Canopus HQ if your system can handle a few layers of HDV...XDCAM HD uses long GOP MPEG2 so the performance should be similar. However, once you load the XDCAM EX clips into EDIUS, you can convert to Canopus HQ, which is easy right from the bin.

I have read this morning that the forthcoming Sony deck will covert footage direct from the cards to SD when it comes available.

If the convert quality is good it will save an awful amount of time in virtual dub!

        Storm dave,

GV Canopus has a SDI Desktop edit Station

This seems specific to my work flow, Not sure what hardware is required.

Do you if this uses any canpous hardware?

How does the station or process convert to SD from XDCAM?

Does it use timeline or some sort of capture device from camera?

The SP-SDI board is an EDIUS hardware board.

XDCAM footage is transferred in a file-based workflow like you would with just software EDIUS. Or you can capture SD SDI.

I don't really think you need the EDIUS SDI system unless you need to output SD SDI...
