Yes, I see that a number of video cards are on the market that are HDCP compliant.

I originally had my monitor hooked up to the 2nd DVI port on my video board - and used a DVI to HDMI converter cable. This did not allow for full theater mode. I then switched to the component output on the board - the theater mode was also not available here.

It seems that the digital rights folks have everything locked up .... which includes my personal videos!

It's possible that ALL your hardware chain must be HDCP-compliant (certainly for BD/HD DVD playback with software players) - my card is one of the newer HD series (3870).

BTW, my Plan B with the ADVC300 does not allow for HD stuff. I can change the project setting to SD - do the HD editting - and then change it back for final rendering - but this is a bit awkward.

I upgraded to the newest Catalyst 8.5 and the theater mode is still grayed out! My board is a 850XL based board. Maybe something else going on?

OK. I searched the forums on this a couple different ways prior to my post and didn't find anything that I could use.

However, I came up with Plan B. I have an ADVC300 and I connected my monitor to this via the S-video output and then to the computer via IEEE. Edius automatically found it and used it.

    All is well for now.....

Your question has largely been answered already - Theatre Mode is something that is essentially removed for the most part, with both NVIDIA and ATI cards under Windows Vista. Instead, Vista takes care of the fullscreen output abilities. This was a directive of Microsoft's compliance with HD content protection (ie. keeping Hollywood happy).

Unfortunately, it closes the doors on everyone, regardless of what they do with their fullscreen video output.

Edius on Vista: No fullscreen theater mode

When I used Edius on XP I used a TV in full screen theater mode to display what the video would look like.

On Vista, apparently full screen theater mode is gone and this can't be done. I ransacked the internet and found a lot of discussion on this. So I am reduced to watching my video on my editing screen. I tried a lot of things - including disabling Aero - but no luck. My ATI driver has the Theater mode section greyed out.

Anyone have any further suggestions on this?

So far, everything else appears to works with Edius on Vista. I do not have an Canopus hardware on my system - just the software.
Working...
