Can anyone recommend a better title software than the one that comes with Edius, or maybe one that has more options than Quick Titler. Obviously it would have to be compatible.

TitleMotion Pro comes with a different packages of EDIUS.
Also you could use Photoshop to create the titles. Have EDIUS & Photoshop both open at the same time and load the PSD into EDIUS...once you make changes in Photoshop and CTRL+S (Save) it will be updated in EDIUS. -
I use "BluffTitler" with great success, CanopusHQ plugs into the software for Exporting link as follows

Also use an old version of "TitleDeko" with great success Export in TGA format and the most expensive I use is "Boris RED".
All work outside edius and the file has to be imported, I do not find this a problem.
All have the ability for the exported file to have transparent alpha so there are no problems with overlay
