The newer "Penryn" based CPU's are really fast and have high FSB's...so you can't go wrong. CPU is the most important part for EDIUS, then the graphics card (for D3D overlay) and the more RAM the better. If you plan to use the internal hard drive (ie, not external eSATA drive) for video, then make sure to get a laptop that the drive is 7,200 RPM so you can at least edit a bit on it. If the laptop is capable of a second drive, then make sure it's 7200rpm as well.

Don't even go with AMD, they are way behind Intel right now.

  • Most important specs for HDV and EX1 editing on laptop?

    Hi everyone,
I'm planning to get a new laptop soon for HDV editing. What is the PRIORITY of these specs to determine best performance and efficiency with Edius 4.61 broadcast?

    a. processor speed
    b. bus speed
    c. amount of RAM
    d. 32bit or 64 bit processing
    e. hard drive speed
    f. graphics card, card memory

As an example, here are 2 laptops with their specs. Which would PERFORM better for HDV editing? Please look at the specs and prioritize them, don't look at the make and model as these are only examples.

    1. HP Pavillion DV9730US- 2.2GHz AMD Turion 64X2TL-64 dual core 64 bit processing, 3GB DDR2 system mem, 1600MHz bus speed, NVIDIA GeForce 7150M graphics and 1071MB total shared video memory, 3GB SATA 5400RPM hard drive. Windows Vista OS

    2. Velocity Micro Notemagix X20- 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo E6600 64 bit processing, 3GB DDR2 system mem, 667MHz FSB, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT with 512MB dedicated memory, 3GB SATA 5400RPM hard drive, Windows Vista OS.

So.... is a faster processor more important than bus speed? How important is the type of graphics card and memory for laptop editing? Is there anything else important that was left out?

    Thanks!!
Working...
