  • Edius SP + P5WDG2 WS Professional

    Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting Edius SP and am looking at motherboards.

    This one seems perfect.
    Asus P5WDG2 WS Professional

Anyone using this with Edius SP ?

    Any thoughts on this ?

    Thanks :)

Edius SP is PCIx only...unless you guys in Australia have the PCIe versions already.

I recommend that you invest in a server motherboard...

I have used that motherboartd with NX PCI-X version which is basically the same board as the SP...

it is a very good motherboard indeed...

        Note

As well as i know,EDIUS SP(PCIE) can run well on P5WDG2, this motherboard has past the test.

Not much talk about that by the local rep down here, earlier today. But something across the line would be in order - and how far away?

Reckon there's something afoot, say 6mths?

Since the Supermicro PDSGE/PDSG4 can't handle Core2Duo CPUs I now use the Asus board for cost effective SP turnkeys. It's a solid choice.

I have this board running with an Extreme 2.93 overclocked to 3.3. 4 gigs of DDR2 800. I built the system in October, and upgraded the raid in December.
I have the Pci-e NX but it also has 2 pci-x slots on board. You can make them both run at 133. It is stable and handles anything I have thrown at it.
Here was my rationale for the purchase. It may not hold as true within the next few months.
It came down between a dual dual core xeon system and the 2.93 system. Most software, at that time, did not take advantage of the 4 cores. Only a few programs do now.
I can get the same results with my system that the dual dual xeon ( or even the dual quad)boys are getting now. How, you say! Well Edius doesn't use all of those cores. So if you are using Edius, and that is your main program, why spend all of that extra cash.
Now, if you are using CS3, it utilizes more cores in the application. This is where the duals and quads will walk away with it.
That is your decision to make.
The new chips will be released in Q3 with a 45 nano footprint. These will be cooler and more powerful. New motherboards will be released to support the chips. And then there is the ram. Supposedly DDR3 will be shipping.

On the other hand, the old chips will be cheaper and at that point more software will be using multiple cores so.....you might want to think about going to a server board with the older chips.

A couple of points to think about.
If you decide to go the way of the P5WDG2 WS Pro, you won't go wrong.

This board is great: I have used the SP on my system (see my profile) and it worked perfectly!
I would go for the Edius SP SDI now...

So apart from using PCI-e and NOT PCI-X
what is the difference between the current Edius SP hardware & the new Edius SP SDI hardware ?

                        Thx

I have this motherboard and it works fine. The external SATA is exactly what I wanted. The one before it the WS was also OK but would not accept the Conroe chip.
