  • Is this normal

    Hi Folks
I just noticed that when I am in the capture window I lose the signal from my HDV deck or camera during pause.
So if I am previewing my HDV tape & I pause the deck to fine tune an in point I am unable to as the capture window loses the signal from the HDV device that is connected.
With DV mode this is not the case the capture window functions as expected on pause, I am then able to fine tune the in & out points for a batch list.
Is this a limitation of the HDV format or do I have a problem here.
When I have captured HDV in the past I have simply captured the entire tape & chopped it up once onboard the HDD, this time however I have a ton of tapes to work through so that method is not an option.
Be nice to know if others are experiencing this same behaviour.
Capture is over OHCI HDV to Canopus HQ 1440X1080 50i in Edius 4.6 & 4.61.

    Regards, Dave.

I think that's normal... Mine blinks on and off during tape shuttle.
People complain about the Batch Capture function and HDV also. I'll bet it has something to do with the long GOP's of mpeg2/HDV.

I guess it's just the nature of the Beast.

Thanks for the response Rusty, I feared that the HDV stream may be the problem.

Picture in Picture mode helps with single monitor.
We have a Dell 2407wpf monitor with PnP function if I set this to component & hook up the deck/cam via component to the Dell & set the display mode to on in deck/cam i.e timecode info etc I am now able to work more easily with the batch capture function with HDV (just need to save up for another monitor) I seem to be able to seek frame by frame in forward >| but not reverse but thats OK, I did some test batch captures & seemed to get what I was after with a 2sec lead in/out, I did a quick edit on the timeline & then deleted the media from the HDD & performed a clip restore capture & everything restored just fine. Hopefuly a usable batch list & EDL can be had from these HDV sources.
        Regards, Dave.
