  • Computer Specs for Capturing in HQ...

    Hello,

I am looking at an HPX-500 camera and it records with the DVCPRO HD codec.

It also sends most every framerate out the firewire channel, so I was thinking, it would be nice to be able to capture this to a laptop like Adobe On Location, but use Edius.

Does anybody know what laptop specs would be needed for a reliable capture of 720p60 DVCPRO HD over firewire into Edius?

I have a Dual-Core dell with 2 gig of ram.

What would be the best or easiest format to capture to? Canopus HQ...

    Thanks

I believe you should be fine as I know that HDV is easy to capture and convert with the specs you have. Dual core seems to handle the conversion to HQ just fine.

What is the speed is the CPU?

I think the CPU is the first level of Intel Dual-Core at 2.2 Ghz.

      More questions:

If I capture from the camera which is outputting 720p60 4:2:2 at 100 Mbps, will the resultant file be the same specs once it is inside of Edius?

In other words, will it look the same as if I used a P2 card?

Also, would I need to Edius Broadcast to capture from this camera?

      Thanks

You need Edius Broadcast to import P2.
The file, while editting, is native to the format it was shot in. I just checked properties on a P2 clip and it seemed unchanged in the bin. You have a bunch of choices for output to file including DVCpro HD. You can even render in DVCPro HD and output back to the P2 card. 100Mbps? Not sure. Does DvcPro HD come in a 50Mbps variety as well?
