  • 3D Picture in Picture with transitions

I use 3D picture in Picture for almost every project that I do and it really irks me that when you have two clips together and you want to transition between them it will take the 3D Picture in Picture effect from the first clip and apply it to the second (and third and fourth etc.). This feature completly baffles me because I don't see why it needs to be the default. I can't even think of when I would possibly use it that way.

I realize that you can make the clips into AVI files and then put the transition between them. But I often want to go back and change things to my picture in picture and so it's just a really big hassle to do it in that way.

Is there any way to change this default or go around this in an easier way?!

    Thanks, Kristen

    Kristen,

I actually find that feature terrifically handy, as I can transition between different videos or stills within the same PIP.

However, I know what you are talking about. The way I get around it is to put the video I'm transitioning to on another track. That way, the PIP does not carry over to the next clip and I can put any type of transition I want on the second clip.. I'm an old school editior and still use A/B type edting anyway, so it's a natural way to do it for me.

    Welcome to the forums.

      Hi Kristen,
Yes, it can be much easier, but because of the nature of Keyers our hands are (somewhat) tied. Keyers work slightly differently than in other apps, but technically I think the Edius application of them is the most logical. (as in they are not a filter (as in some apps))

The trick is to containerize your 3dPnP Keyed clips within a Sequence.
On the Timeline, select your pre-transition clip(s), Right-Click and pick "Add to Bin as Sequence". Do this again for your post-transition clip(s).

Add your Transition and you're done!

Wow! thank you very much! I tried both and they are both easy and quick. I knew there had to be a way. I can't believe I have just let this frustrate me for the past 6 months!

hmm I believe I spoke too soon. I'm doing a project at the moment and I'm running into problems with both.

With Tom's approach, I have PIP on both clips and it won't let me apply the transition on the top clip unless it doesn't have PIP on it.

Then I tried Rustys approach. The problem with this is, first it gives an end and beginning of the clip so in order to apply a transition I must first go back and make sure there is room at the beginning of the last clip and the end of the first clip so there is enough room for the transition the second problem is that I had a still picture and used PIP to put it in the lower left corner when I click "add to bin as sequence" it adds all of the black around the picture, thus when I put it back into the sequence it covers the logo that I have in the bottom right hand of the screen. I would put the logo on the top layer except that the logo is connected with a black background so that wouldn't work either.

So....is there another way or am I doing something wrong?

What you want to do is a very easy in the xplode pro composer multiple objects.
Look at the screen grab on
pip the left: pictures dissolving in to each other
            pip on the right: video
back ground is still but can also be video
two logo files flying in and out
All realtime in sd on my system

            Really simple

what transition do you wish to add in between 2 or more 3D PIP clips?

if dissolve, than this can be done easy with the keyer rubber bands

Not simple for me I'm afraid mate! I am using XPlode Pro 4.51 with HD footage and for the life of me I can't find "A-B Two PiPs and Graphics" which I presume is in your Presets. Would someone please shed some light on this?
                          Thanks,
