I have a clip that was shot in a low light condition with the camcorder gain set fairly high and as expect I am seeing quite a bit of noise, I never have had a condition like this one before, is the any way in Edius Pro to lessen the amount of noise.

I am not in front of my WS with Edius but recall that ProCoder (2 and 3) has a "Temporal Noise Reduction" filter.

You can use the "Median" filter to reduce video noise.

So far only NeatVideo works really well (from what I have tested)

Too bad there is no Edius plugin yet, so you'll have to export your video and use the free virtual dub software with NeatVideo plugged in as filter.

Result is great and render pretty fast.

I've been doing your suggestion and it smooths things out pretty good without taking away from regular detail.

I've used Anton's suggestion quite a bit, and it works well. However, there have been instances where adding a small amount of "smooth blur" (no more than about a 5) to a scene where there's a lot of movement eliminates the "grain" or "noise", without causing any motion blur per se.

But in really terrible noise situations, and I know this is an extra step, I have found NOTHING that works as well as "NEAT for VisualDub". It's nearly flawless. But you have to import the clip into VisualDub, apply the NEAT filter, play with a slew of very effective parameters of your choice, then output to and *.avi and back into EDIUS. I've taken scenes that are so dark they can barely been seen on the monitor, added bringtness and contrast to them until they are quite visible - even though the noise ratio is nearly 1:1 by that time - and put it through NEAT with a very acceptable and surprising result. Worth looking at the "trial" versions!

I downloaded the two programs and could open a clip I captured in Canopus HQ with no problems, checked the Neat filter and it worked also but had to leave before doing any changes to the clip. Question, if I apply changes will Edius load changed clip or is there something additional needed.

I always find it safer to retain the "old" file, just in case, and rename the file coming out of VirtualDub with the NEAT changes. Then reload the new file and apply to timeline. I always want to save my original file in tact since there might be a desire to go back and later change it in some way once again. It's an extra step, I know - but rather safe than sorry! Only takes a minute.

Adding the Motion Blur filter seems to work a fair bit on only slightly noisy shots. Anyone have any further things to add on what you have found out?

Best noise filter is still Neat Video. I export the clips that requires noise reduction (especially those taken by HVX202 in low light conditions) to After Effects and run Neat Video on it. It is a world of a difference. Right now, I don't do that anymore - as the HPX172 is a very much better camera. Very low noise.
