  • Can't Do Japanese Characters in TitleMotion?

I have a long film with over 200 (English) graphics all done in TitleMotion. They have been re-versioned in French, German and Spanish with no problem at all. Now it is time to do the Japanese version. Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me see how to get TM to work in Japanese, although Quick Titler, Photoshop, etc. are all fine. According to some sources, you can only use Japanese characters in TM if you are running the Japanese version of MS Windows. Is this really true, and is there no workaround? Any help appreciated.

Not sure about Japanese, but with Chinese Characters in Edius with title motion pro no problem !

A person i know here in town is using Edius 4.6 + TM pro to do chinese and english subtitles for all his video's.

You are able to do this on a English XP system with the foreign language packs installed.

It's very trouble some, you have to use a software called chinese star, type with keyboard "abc" spelling of one word and then the software translate this to a chinese character. You have to know the language and know how it's spelled using "abc" which makes no common sense at all when I saw this being done.

Not sure if there is a sort of Japanese version like this. I know this story is not much of help but just to tell you an English XP can do foreign characters, spend enough time looking and you will find the App.

    Good luck.

Edit : I normally use free internet translation software, but not very reliable.

You can import the Japanese language pack via the Regional/Language settings dialog in Control Panel.

The steps are more or less covered here.

You'll need both the East Asian fonts and the Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) which will install the Language Bar for you, where you can input hiragana, katakana and kanji.

Of course you'll also need to use Japanese fonts in TitleMotion, but since you got things working in QuickTitler, I think you already know this.

Thanks guys, but I have indeed installed the Japanese language pack. I can read my Japanese source file just fine in MS Word, and I can cut from that document and paste into QuickTitler no problem. However I cannot paste into TM. How come QT works but TM doesn't?

It's possible that TMPro doesn't support double-byte characters... Quick Titler definitely does, but I'm really not sure on TMPro.
