  • HV20 pulldown removal

Apparently, the way the Canon HV20 deals with 24fps is wacky. I've done a couple experiments with it and I'm not happy with the results. Playback is not smooth.

Does anyone have a recipe for dealing with the HV20 24fps mode?

Are you talking not smooth on the computer, or not smooth on the monitor of the camera? Are you using it in Edius? What version?
I have the XH-A1 and it records in the same format. It shoots choppy, but comes into the computer fine. Make sure you pick the correct preset.
It will make all the difference.

      I'm using Edius Pro 4.6.

I imported the video twice with the two 24P presets. The playback on the computer monitor is not smooth--looks like a field order problem (which I guess it is).

There are two 24 fps presets. One labeled Sony/Canon and the other just Canon. Which is correct for HV20?

Now, once its captured and turned into HQ avi, are there other settings I need to be aware of?

        HV20 Pulldown removal

Hi Andy, I have the same problem: not knowing which setting to choose. Here is a sample clip with 3 ways of ingesting 24f:

I read elsewhere that the 2-3-2-3 pulldown is the correct one but the HV20 does not have a cadence flag. Not sure what it means: EDIUS can remove pulldown regardless of the flag, or it can't remove it properly.
