I can agree with you...I HATE those handles...give me gripe......sometimes I have a very small clip, or still, especially when doing commercials where items are just up for 1 sec. or 2.....man...those lUV handles give me twiddles in my bones.....makes me waste so much time zooming in and out just 2 shift or trim......not so in ver. 3.......why cant programmers leave things that work well, as they are......

to redgum, yes Mostly Conventions / Seminars and Yes, Ocasionally Christian Church Rally's. Starting in the Morning at 8 am till some times 11 pm at night, 3 till 5 days in total duration, They are quite fanatic here despite the country's main religion.

Others on weekly basis are company dinner shows with lots of speaches and live Band performances, and the rare wedding, all recorded live straight in to the DV storm setup, and frequently edited at location for for fast VCD / DVD delivery.

My Edius Workstation has been in the Sabah Mountains, Tropical rainforest, Beaches and even traveled to a nearby island to be run on Generator and edit through out the night, admist campfire and lots of people partying on the beach.

Our motto is that if your event can be reached by boot, plain or 4 wheel drive we'll be there.

    Been there, Done that.

I loudly add my grumble to this thread, the non centering is awful, always falling off the right hand side of the timeline, it's hideous, boring and ...

also I must add that the dancing timeline is STILL bugging me, when fully zoomed in, you do anything and the cursor flys all over the place, aaaargh!!

why oh why are these dull and painful issues not fixed, come on GV get in there with a big stick, and knock these olde bugs out forever.

.... and, you can't remove effects or small clips without zooming in because of those idiotic coloured handles, so big you can't see Jack Diddly what's underneath... ugh ugh ugh

    thats better !!

if you want to get a feel of it, just take any of your 30-35 minute project, open a new sequence, paste it 10 times after each other and play a bit, then You know how small the "Handle" at the bottom of the timeline become's and how difficult it is zoom when it's not centered.

The job I'm working on now Has 7 Sequences of 3 to 5 1/2 hour duration, just to share my headache a bit ..............

Edit : To people who have only 30 minute projects .......... I envy you all.
All this frustration makes me think about changing my job ............. to bird watching or the like.

    I totally agree with SoundFreak.
Timeline zoom area not being centered is so painful.
I use to edit daily about 1 or 2 hrs of material and I have to keep zoom in followed by zoom out for the cursor to center.

My biggest projects are cca 35 min, so I can't exactly know how big your problem is.

50+ sequences sounds (too) big to handle and it would probably get way complicated, unless you have 5 pre-FINAL sequences which you put into 1 FINAL sequence for exporting only, but that's only theory speaking, haven't encountered such big projects yet.
But still, to put it simply in ONE sequence sounds extremley hard to me, especially because of that, like you mentioned, ''I don't want that, cut it out'' stuff that client's demand.

Markers that adjust WITH the clip deletion/move is most desirable option.

Perhaps it would be nice to have 2 kind of markers; one that stay on the timeline TC whatever you do with the v/a clips on it, and the other one that 'stick' somehow with the specific time code od the specific video/audio clip on the timeline.

If that's possible to do, of course.

Since topic name is 10 things you hate about Edius, Im wondering:

When using 3D PiP, Size of the clip automatically adjusts to 80%, so I always need to enter into Position tab Size back to 100.
Can this be changed somehow, so default doesn't do that 100 to 80 size adjustment?

To Me the Centred Zoom and Markers that adjust according to clip deletion is very important, both also I don't have ..........

Just Imagine that you have almost a hundred markers on the 5 hour timeline project, then the client decides to cut another 10 or 20 seconds in the beginning, now all markers that are used for DVD chapters are 10 or 20 seconds delayed, I don't want to think about a few more cut out's in the project. Sheer horror for me.

Wow. I missed that one, I went from Version 1 to 4 ........

If it's not going to be in Edius 5 I will have to look for a Version 3 on Ebay then.

Never thought of that. it's only 2 extra steps per edit, what gives right ?

My nature of work is mostly 3 to 5 hour events, would you chop that up in 50+ sequences ?

Maybe a work around but a Centered zoom would fix everything (like most App's work)

Hm. Press quickly space button twice and that's it.

By clicking it once, the timeline cursor starts to move, second time it'll stop immediatley so...maybe it's not perfect, but works fine for me.

Also, 1 hour clip in one timeline editing? Wow.

started a topic Top 10 what I (you) Hate about Edius

Top 10 what I (you) Hate about Edius

    Hi there,

I Just completed a 5 hour+ editing session with my client watching over my shoulder and I need to get this out of my System.

The Timeline zoom function is driving me nuts !

The edit session contained of a 1 hour clip with about 10 thousand clicks and pops (at least it felt like that)

I exported the wave to get it into my Audio editor, but the client requested to also see the video ........... so back to Edius again.

Did some cleanup using several vst plug ins but the client was still not satisfied, so started from the beginning cleaning by hand.

After having zoomed in and out using the CTLR+# keys & using the scroll wheel on the mouse, both hands and fingers are cramping up !

GV Please Please do something about the timeline zoom area NOT being centered, while pausing the video, if the timeline cursur is at the far left or right it always gets out of the viewable area when you zoom, this is extremely irritating at best.

This "feature" has been discussed many times during the Canopus days, and even now that GV has taken over requested many times but still remains UNCHANGED !

If the designers would edit a real life situation e.g a 3 to 5 hour timeline, and NOT a 10 minute test with only a few clips on it, they would find out that this zoom function is horrible.

If the engineers like it so much, please provide an option in the setting to switch the CENTERED ZOOM function ON or OFF and leave it OFF by default.

So that the rest of us can Switch it ON.

Had to get this out of my system, that feels a lot better now that my blood pressure has returned to normal.

Sorry for this .............. But I had too ...........
Working...
