HQ avi compatability

We shoot in jvc's hdv mode 720x576 50p because it gives us great slow motion editing for the weddings. In 25p we just do not get the same look as progressive is choppy looking already and 50p looks smoother and like mentioned, great slow motion, also uprez to 1280x720 is good in this shooting mode.

Yes but 50p is not as standard as 25fps. You're going to have problems here... It is merely used for sports or some shots that require slow mo. I think you need to buy a JVC HDV deck for the FCP guy and let him capture it there. Or get a iMac or Macbook Pro (At least) with FCP to capture the files and send it off to the editor.

One last thing to try is to export from EDIUS using ProCoder Express, then select QuickTime and change the video settings so it matches your footage. Choose QuickTime PNG as the codec (Small sizes, but heavy on the computer). Try that clip see if it works ok.

720x576 is standard definition and not HDV

I had the HD100 before, it uses MPEG2 HDV mode to record 60p (or 50p for PAL) in standard definition. It's not a standard stream. The HD2xx does it in 720p mode.

I want to prevent him taking camera all the time as its used on other jobs. I just wanted to work out a good work flow where we capture and he edits using files from ext hardrive and we meet once a week for hardrive swap.Old days, no probs, today, lots of issues. There must be a way I can capture, place onto hardrive, minimal conversions, he can edit on FCP and also be able to create hd files for later authoring. I hope that makes sense

Any reason why you guys are upconverting and shooting at 50p? If you shoot at 25fps 16:9 PAL, then you can easily export with the MSDV box ticked and get those files over to the FCP person.

Ok, So can I capture in edius directly to uncompressed avi or do i need to capture m2t or hq avi then convert all the captured files to uncompressed avi to give editor ext hardrive so it can work in FCP. just checking

in order to capture to uncompressed, you ideally need Edius SP with component connection from camera

you can't capture uncompressed via firewire

You're better off taking the camera there and capturing the tape right into FCP onto your external hard drive. A much better solution.

The older HD100's only did SD 60p, but the new ones do 720p60....Not sure you can export as MSDV at 60p. Your best bet is just to export to Uncompressed AVI and let the FCP editor load it, uncompressed AVI's load fine in the latest version of FCP. Or export as QuickTime Animation codec, but make sure to lighten it up a bit in FCP.

So. All I am doing is using my computer as a capture station so that my editor who uses mac final cut can edit the captured files. i shoot with a JVC gy111 in a wierd hdv mode called 720x 576 50p and then later on I uprez to 1280x720 25p mode for blue ray in the future. Should I just capture dv avi and it will still uprez nicely later to 1280x720. What are your thoughts

if you export to DV Avi and tick the microsoft box, he should be able to use the files

I have captured files in hq avi format and put onto a hardrive for edit on a mac final cut pro system. My editor is having no luck with the files on edit so just wondering what my alternatives are so that we can capture for him to edit on his computer. Is HQ avi a canopus only thing or can I capture and convert to mov. for compatabibly for mac. Look forward to your response.
