  • HW Gurus ?????

My Edius3.6/Storm System on a Tyan 2462 MB has suddenly started switching itself on after shutdown. It's not SW related as it happens on more than 1 C Drive ( I have caddies) Any thoughts- PSU - MB - switch???

Although I have a new E4/NXe system working I want to keep an E3/Storm system running for the foreseable future. Are there any current MB's that would still support Storm. Th option of course is to have a caddy on the NXe with E3 on but that would be limiting to planned workflow

    Thanks

My Storm 2 and edius 4.6 is running nice on ASUS P5W64WS PRO with Intel core 2 duo 3ghz

It also ran very well on ASUS P5K64 WS PRO

I have runn the dtorm 2 on several boards ALL with INTEL chipset's Infact I think thats the winning formular with the storm board.

Its still great for SD :-)

      G'day Dave.
I run a server box config and despite all my checks I cannot find why this happens to me either. It is not new (the system or the problem)

My solution is mains off, consoling myself that I an reducing my footprint on the environment, that with what I have set up now means a raft of related stuff goes off with it, thereby drawing no power despite being off ( and still doing so) .

Go green Dave - hmm....a green silverback.........like to see that.

Good news about the ASUS P5K64 WS PRO as the new system is on that board.
Pete, this started happening about 2 weeks ago although I was away for a week and only just tried to ascertain cause. Have you ever tried changing the PSU to eliminate that?

Me green- you bet .......as green as a burnt burger.

          G'day Dave

No Dave I didn't. Long story.

Had a fully functioning dual redundant PS when this random startup began. Quite some time ago, couple years easy.

Got major failure from what I don't know whilst powered up and working one day early last year. Totally dead midstream work.

So that is my window on this particular problem if you get me.

Lost the lot, PS, mobo, .....

Have since restored system (took a while to TS) save 512 lost in 1 ram stick, PSU 1 gone and some raid data. Interestingly, only the striped combo's not the singles. (I must raid all drives, single or multiple)

I am getting by on PSU2 (no backup) and less 512MB ram.
System is OK and not worth putting any more money into. Going Intel MacPro and will use this server as another machine.

Can't say for sure if you are going to end up going down the same track as I did but I would be careful, watch your backups and just keep going.

If you want some insurance maybe a new PSU with some more grunt. Maybe you have it under too much load these days?? (extra gear it now can't cope with)

Best I can say mate, your call

A very stable choice for the DVStorm:
