  • SONY VAIO AR61ZU laptop

Wondering if anybody has had a chnce to test Edius on the SONY VAIO AR61ZU laptop with Vista and all that for HD editing.

Very much in need of a move up, or should one wait to see whats around the corner?

I have an AR51, 17inch screen, 2Ghz core duo, dual sata 150gb drives, express card slot, hdmi out, bluray burner (dual layer) runs Edius 4.61 perfectly well and can manage HD OK, I use this as my field laptop, as it can **** in the files from my EX1's at 3 mins per 8gig card - very cool indeed!

The only downside is the battery life is short, and the beast is pretty heavy - but only 900 euro's to buy.

Once I de-Vista'd it, the computer behaves much like an XP machine, much better.

    Hope this helps,

    Paul

I had mine shipped to Spain without tax by these guys:

but I guess you have to pay tax bringing it into Sweden.

          thanks again Paul,

as Sweden is in the EU there would be VAT reduction from the UK, but as you say I will need to pay 25% in Sweden (cough! cough! I'm english I'll pick it up) How is the guarentee on these items from them would there be an EU warranty?

Next step is to find a good outlet for an Edius NX for HD card for the main computer.

          Cheers
          George

I registered mine with Sony in the usual way, the unit has a Europe wide guarantee, online support etc.

I always deal with DVC in Brighton for Canopus/GV, they ship stuff out to me directly, and they'll test before shipping, if you ask them to.

Hi Guys I'm really having problems deciding what to do here in the way of investing in a laptop for editing.

I've looked at the Sony Vaio ar61zu and it looks really nice, (though quite expensive still) but... I'm worried its not yet ready or powerfull enough for HD editing. (Sony EX1 footage) Is their anybody editing HD on their laptop with good behavior in other words no lagging in performance, I know my stationary system needs a face lift good and proper it nearly dies everytime it hits the HD footage.

Maybe its all wishfull thinking that there is a laptop available out there?

Sunny day in Sweden 25C heaven!
