  • Sequence editing problem.... cockpit error? Bug?

I have 4 short sequences mixed on the timeline with several QT clips. A few weird things are happening when applying dissolves between sequences and clips. BTW, All material does have transistion handles to accomodate the dissolves.

    1. I apply a dissolve to the end of a sequence and the begin of a video clip. The video clip goes black on both the source and record monitors. Just dissappears. Not on all clips, just a few here and there on the timeline.

    2. On some of the dissolves the result looks like the clips are picking up extra frames from the backend of its own clip, and are visible during the dissolve. It looks like there aren't enough frame handles and you see some of the next clips frames to make up for it. But only it comes from the other end of the same clip. Am I making sense here?

Can you edit sequences just like video clips? Am I doing something wrong? I am trimming (cut and ripple delete mostly) the lengths of some of the sequences on the timeline. I assume this can be done? Are these bugs?

    Thanks.

I am not on my NLE-WS.... but have you try:

A\b editing ....and the dissolve on the "mixer-part" from the clip ???

in order to add dissolves on the same track, you should not have any grey triangles at the clip edges (this indicates clip is fully extended)

as Hans mentioned, AB editing should always work and transitions are applied to keyer track of the higher clip only, never on the lower one

Thanks for the reply Hans and Anton.

I am not doing AB editing. I am using just the VA track and trimming the mixed sequences and QT video clips on the timeline. I am not using multiple tracks as in the screen shot you provided. I am applying the dissolves to the video clips on the VA track only.

When applying a dissolve, some clips, not all, just show black in both monitors. Meaning the video disappears just as if you had a blank spot on the timeline. But there isn't a blank spot. The clip stays put, but the video goes away. When I double click the disappearing clip on the timeline, nothing shows up in the source monitor window. Its blank.

Also most of the clips on the timeline work fine with dissolves applied. It is maybe 1 out of 10 clips exhibits this strange behavior. Its seems like some of the sequences don't like the trimming and the transistions applied. Edius should treat the sequences just like an ordinary video clip, correct? I should be able to trim and add transistions.

does it work if you try AB style?

I don't use QT files on timeline so I can't be sure if that is a cause

I also don't use sequence clips because they fail to show a waveform
