That works very nicely Anton! Thats what makes it work - from the slight stretch back to normal. Now why didn't I think of that!

    Thanks for the help!

      Looks clean avi too.

I slowed it down in Edius a little (to 10%) to see how that looked and how well the technique stood up under stress. I was looking for traces of the PIP scaling manifesting as multiple images (what I considered a possible flaw in the idea) and them in particular dirtying up the idea and giving the game away as to how it was done.

But you tweaked it right. Pretty good Anton.

However I noticed some black, modulating banding at top of the overlay, I did not play out to monitor, so
      - do not know if this an overlay issue
      - or whether underscanning will cover it up.

I don't think it would, seems too much there. What do you see?

The process/idea might need some more work maybe

It's a pretty good Edius emulation tech as it stands though, for sure. The pristine footage also makes it shine where it could easily have shot it dead by the same token if the idea didn't fly.

No, we have to go a little further with the t/l tech Anton. It shows a jump cut at 10% so it just won't do!!

I'll see if I can lay it up my 'usual' style/way.........I'll let you know, but not cuts to other material is the answer, (as I assume you said you did it. It has to go 'one pass'.

          Vitascene :)

Demo should last for a month and is fully functional.

The problem with the blend filter and other work arounds is that it does not change the frequency of the blur effect in EDIUS. Hopefully in v5 it should work like Premiere and other NLE's.

in order to do a dissolve from 3D PIP to non 3D PIP you have to do a cut and employ AB style editing

because Edius applies 3D PIP to anything that shares a dissolve on the same track, an old feature that some people love and others don't

Yes Anton, but we have a jump cut in your result that needs fixing. Watch the foreground vessel movement (I am sure you have). It jumps frame with dissolve, so this has to change somehow.

I have been testing and I can get a 1 clip seamless pass. My problem is I am not sure it is more realistic than your way. I would like to test house for house.

To me it looks more than adequate and emulates PF well from within Edius. Relatively simply, but I would like to explore further our 2 methods.

Can I d/l this clip from you? Comp origl res?

Oh and thanks for the kudos - it's rare from anywhere!

                  Hi peter

I was indeed out by 1 frame, I must have accidentally moved the clip above by a frame

it looks good now and I made the clip longer so you can practice with the in focus section

                    Thanks for the file Anton.

(a little bit more tail would have been nice!- it was a little tight for 100% motion.)

                    Okay......On 'one clip only'.

                    Cut clip
                    to desired Pull focus dur

                    Add 3DPIP
and keyframe the amount of 'decay'(reduction) you want in the clip back to 100% at end of clip dur eg as Anton used 104%>100%

                    Add Effects>Combine Filter>Blend Fitlers
to select your preferred filter or filters.
Each filter should be of the same keyframing template but not necessarily
Each filter is selected as full effect 'going back to nothing'

You can layer these in alternative priority for different effect outcomes and all are keyframable.
That is why this can be done on 1 clip since without this function, some filters could not otherwise be used in a keyframe mode if selected directly and not in blend mode. eg soft focus

Take this tip elsewhere if you do not already know it.

The way you keyframe the blends will change the 'style' of the PF. Try it and see how it can be made to have different ramping.

You can add any # of filters by adding another (or more) Combine Filters and repeat the above.

The number of effects possibilities can put you in 'AE' mode for just as many days/weeks for stuff that people see only for seconds. How far you want to go is up to you.

All keyframes should be at zero effect by clip end to match-frame edit to the next clip you had originally split.

You can use slowmo for additional effect and ramp back to normal speed, whatever, (if necessary) through other tricks.

                    Go and play, have fun.

If you want to keep it simple, the minimum seems to be 3DPIP + soft focus, but others may prefer and alternative filter with the keyer.

                          G'day Anton.
If you want to see the result by comparison of the tech 1 pass, I can u/l to your ftp if you like. I am out of room on my own.

They are very similar having said that.

Hi Peter, no need to upload

I already tried your method from within the keyer using keyframes and it works fine

I will stick to the quicker method
