  • Edius 9.55 crashing during playback

I continue crashing during playback at a specific point in my timeline. My project settings are for 1080p and I'm importing 4k video. Normally it works fine, however I do see black every now and then in the playback and it even appears in the final render.

But now it just crashes when I try to play at one of those points where it would go black.

attached are the system report. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you cleaned out your temp file folders, recently?

How long has this Windows 10 version been in use? How long has Edius 9 been installed on this Win 10 installation?

If both have been in use for multiple years, it might be time to consider a clean install of Win 10 and Edius 9.5x.

Anton may see something in your system report that can help.

      Thanks you for replying,

WIndows 10 is up to date, Edius was up to date, continued to have the same issue and re-installed it.

Temp files for Edius found in Local app data? or Roaming?

        C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp.

You didn't answer how long Win 10 and Edius 9.5x have been in service.

The reason I've asked all of these questions is that as you go from OS to OS, files are retained and compounded. Many times nothing comes from this. Then there are times when the files start to bogg down or even 'confuse' the system.

The best way to prevent any of this is to do clean installs. The cleaner the system the faster and more reliable it will be.
Along with this you should have at least one clone to cover yourself.
Personally, I like having just a clone of Windows with all of the drivers installed.
Then a clone that is a complete copy if the drive being used.

I would seriously think about doing a completely clean install, with the latest motherboard drivers, new thermal paste, and an interior blow out of dust.

Yes this takes time. Having a clone drastically reduces the time to recovery.

                Just some suggestions

As I said before, Anton may see somethings to change that will help you. In the long run. a bandaid falls off in a very short period of time.

I see two things of importance

                  1. your C drive is full, only has 4GB of space, not enough for Temp files needed

                  2. your onboard graphics are missing, maybe disabled in BIOS or no driver installed? your mobo and CPU are capable of hardware decoding 4k video once you sort the missing onboard graphics issue

                  your mobo is ASUS TUF Z390-PLUS GAMING and CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3600 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Is it sometimes a black frame in the final render that is exactly one frame long?

Might be more than a few. tried a clean install. all temp, registries gone. still got the same issue.

I was just asking because this has been the reason why I have switched to another NLE, I was getting black frames (exactly 1 frame long) in the final render but sometimes also during playback in Edius, just like you are experiencing. First I thought it was my pc but after a pc upgrade with all new components I had exactly the same issue, that was ofocurse unacceptable as I deliver to paying clients and can't have black frames in their film, I was able to "fix it in post" but it was a timeconsuming work. Since I never have been able to solve the problem I had no other choice then to switch to something else which has been free of issues so far.
