  • Hotkey for dropping in clips?

    Hello!

This one here is a little bit weird, but I like to do lipsync animation inside of Edius, and export that facial animation as an AVI into a separate animation software.

What I have is a set of PNG images - each one a different mouth shape - that I essentially copy/paste over the waveform, following along so that the shapes match the sound.

    Basic lipsync. Aardman style.

But I spend a fair amount of time just scrolling to the right, selecting the mouth shape, Ctrl + C / copy, bring the playhead back to where I left off, Ctrl + V/paste...

It would be phenomenal if there was a way to hotkey to place certain mouth shapes (PNG files) with keystrokes. It would save SO much time.

I'm familiar with Adobe's Character Animation software and other automated solutions - I just like doing lipsync the traditional and precise way.

I've tried solutions within After Effects (where I do the rest of the animation) and they are nice, but I find I can't get as ACCURATE a read/match as I can in Edius, which is realtime and right on the money as far as which frame hits at which sound.

And if not built into Edius, is there a 3rd-party solution that can hook into global keystrokes and allow for custom pasting like this?

I appreciate any help on this!

    OJO

Don't know if I'm following you for sure, but there are some options for workflow automation and custom shortcuts. You will have to see if they can do what you want. Some are free, some have free limited versions or trials.

https://www.magicautoma.com (this has close integration with edius and many other media softwares)

Free keyboard macro program. Supports hotkeys for keyboard, mouse, and joystick. Can expand abbreviations as you type them (AutoText).

Macro Recorder is an automation solution and saves you from repetitive procedures. Like a tape recorder, macro recorder records mouse clicks, mouse movements…

and I'm sure there are more that can be found with a little googling.

you could also place the mouthshapes in a bin subfolder, set large thumbnail size and then just add the correct one to timeline

Thank you! This opens up other doors as well! I had no idea 3rd-party automation software had gotten so fancy!

Thank you for this suggestion! This is how my setup looks now:

          ediuslipsyncshot.jpg

I did a little color-coding to help visually organize, and I went through and chopped each of the PNG images to be 2 FRAMES, then brought them all into the bin.

This is a huge improvement as-is, but I still may look at adding keystrokes to the mix.

I'm very grateful for the Edius help y'all provide here!

you can add any selected clip from bin to timeline playhead position with keyboard shortcut Shift+Enter

Anton, that's a good one to know! Had no clue the shortcut existed - thank you!
