  • Need some advise on the following when starting a project Edius 8WG

Hope somebody can help with the settings before starting a project so I can understand , most of our work is shot in H264 UHD and 8bit 25fps Panasonic or 24fps and GO PRO 4k 60p h265 (this is my biggest headache for smooth play back) ,
but never sure what settings to start the project with to get best smooth play back before we start editing or how effects the playable . Other than creating small Proxies all files, setting preview playback and trans coding to HQX, Prorez or Avid, Which make massive files, but play smooth back, After testing the different files encoding a 1min clip ProRez was the smaller file and HQX the biggest , hope this makes sence. I enclose the screen shots
    thanking you
    Gavin

Does your Audio need to be 8 channel? I doubt GoPro outputs 8 channel.

set project setting to 2 channel audio and use Lanczos3 High Quality, the rest is fine

change the frame rate of the gopro clips from 24 to 25 in the bin prior to adding to timeline, you can change the frame rate of all 24p clips to 25p in one hit by using icon/detail view, select all 24p clips and change frame rate of any of the selected to 25 and it will apply to all selected

can the gopro be changed to 25p?

avoid shooting 60p if your main job is 25fps

          Thank you Anton ,

it clears up something I have been wanting to know for some time about the setup before starting a edit.

As for the Gopro settings of 4k uhd 60p/50p is used for capture of slow motion footage , but do set the Go pro to 4k UHD at 25p and pro tune on.

          Thank you

you can set gopro to 50p and then change frame rate in bin to 25 and when placed on timeline, it will play half speed and smooth with no frame blending

"set project setting to 2 channel audio" Why can't this be the default? A lot of people are missing this option.
