  • How to create a text effect in EDIUS

OK I have a selection of single line text title sets I am using in a small corporate video - My first actually..........Small local firm.

I want to produce an effect of shining a spotlight from behind the text panning from left to right so the effect would have a the beam of light shining around the text shape.

I am sure I have seen this done in EDIUS but I cant think where...

I have gone through the EDIUS TRAINING again but cant find it...I think it may have been done in TMP again not sure?

I think it may have been asked before also......

Frankly, the simplest and most reliable route is via After Effects (if you have it). Shame, but that's the way it is at the moment.

Maybe Vitascene by Prodad could be suitable, although the lack of an alpha channel in the Edius Plugin may be a problem.

      or

HHHAAAAAA Thats where I saw it Thanks! Although it doesnt work as a plugin? SHAME that would have been a nice time saver........

May look at the workaround until full alpha support comes .........

        Thanks though.........

Are you creating the original text item in Photoshop, Quicktitler or TMP?
If you are using photoshop to create the stand alone file, Vitascene will work, and allow 3D pip to add motion keeping the alpha intact. You must apply the filter preset and then choose the transition title effects for the effect you wish to use.
This should work with Quicktitler and TMP as well. Just take the title out of the title track and apply it to an upper most V track and apply effect as above.
AE is still the best choice.

Hi Jerry - Yes I was hoping to do the titles ALL in TMP then apply the filter - I have not bought Vitacene yet as I realy want it just for this Job - Do you think its worth it to go that way I see there are some add ons maybe needed to get that effect - Or is it contained within the 2.5 / 2.6 version as a standard effect.

I see eporting the titles as an avi then applying the filter is a way to go? is this right?

            Cath - Thanks for help!

With the situation of alpha and the workarounds that one has to do to get alpha, I would just do the effect on the timeline and render it. Exporting will
loose the alpha properties (unless you do the workarounds).
You should be able to get the basic effect you are looking for, however, to get more control over the effect I would do the effect in AE and then export it out....thus retaining the alpha properties.
If you don't have AE and you have Premiere Pro(Vitascene also has a plugin for that) you can do the effect on the Premiere timeline and export retaining alpha there as well.

If I do something along these lines and it doesn't need anything special, I just do the effect in Edius and render it. That pretty much completes that
process and then you can move on.

If you have a place to post the title I will try it in Vitascene for you and give you a look at it.
