  • Edius 2500% fast motion earns MTV award nomination

I made a video of earth hour where the lights are turned off for one hour, I set up camera on tripod for 2 hours and pressed REC

then I changed the speed of an important section to 2500% and back to normal speed just before lights are turned off

this video can be seen at www.nsw.gov.au (click Video link on right)

you can vote for it if you like at www.mtvawards.com.au

Just to clarify..The award is for "EARTH HOUR" as an event, not the video per se, but it was an excellent idea and execution by Anton for a way to capture the event.. And MTV chose the footage (shot for Channel NSW) to represent the award.. :-)

I guess here we are applauding EDIUS? Because Anton, what did you do? One pan, lol :)

Nah, good on you for that. I just wonder what you did after you did that pan.... I can picture you running fast like one of the three stooges around the city teliing everybody to turn off the light :) A big job, a shame you couldn't convince everybody.

Either that, or you sat down on the bank and had a few smokes? :)

Good Idea for the video and like the quality and transition from fast to normal speed motion very slick.

Either that, or you sat down on the bank and had a few smokes? :)

while the video looks simple, it was rather difficult to prevent the tripod from being knocked from many people being around watching the same thing

also, I had to prevent people from doing the "hi mum waves" in front of lens

camera used was Sony DSR D35WSP Pal 16:9 standard def recorded to DVCAM (great when you can insert a 180min tape), not so simple with Digi Beta and its 40min limit

                          Great Job Anton,

As usual Sydney Harbour looking every bit as beautiful as it is. Every one should make sure they visit Sydney at least once in their lives. As a Melbournian (which is a great place to live and raise a family) I am just so deadly jealous of our northern neighbour, cause thats where all the Aussie icons are, but hey if you want great restaurants (and less traffic) come to Melbourne. I actually spent Earth Hour on the 35th floor of the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne having dinner (we ate by candle light) and I must admit Anton's video made me wish I'd bought my DSR500 with me. By the way I have also found the Edius speed control very useful for technical recordings to achieve a timelapse effect for scientific purposes!

                          Jim
