Dual Monitor Issue (1 is HD, 2 is 4K)

Hello!

I recently got a 4K monitor to use as a 2nd monitor and full-screen output for Edius 9.

Here is my video card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

Currently I have my HD/1920x1080 monitor set as primary, and the 4K monitor set as secondary.

I eventually got it to where Edius would output full-screen to the 4K monitor.
When I hit spacebar/play, it plays on the 2nd (right) monitor FULL-SCREEN (see first image), but when I'm scrubbing around, it drops to this smaller size (see second image).

I appreciate any help y'all can give on this.

this issue is caused when both monitors are not set to 100% default display size
check each monitors scaling setting (right click desktop) to be sure it is 100%

Note: I would use a dedicated 4k card like decklink mini monitor 4k for preview to 4k mon

Graphics card output from EDIUS preview is rubbish for judging anything, because it is only preview quality

I'm looking at this Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K and if I'm understanding right (that when I play 4K videos on my main computer/display, realtime output is sent to the PCI card out to the separate 4K monitor) then this seems ideal.

Currently I shoot episodes on my Fujifilm XT3 cameras, giving me MOV files that are a CHORE for the computer, so I have to convert all to proxy.
(Playback is realtime, but when I drag the playhead or click a new part of the clip, it takes a second to pull up the right clip.)

The best editing experience I ever had was with the Blackmagic Pocket's ProRes.

But I like the baked-in colors I can get from the Fujifilm. So to get realtime editing without proxy or re-encoding, I imagine my only option would be to also get something like a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro to capture on.

yes, if you can record in Prores via an Atomos, you will get a perfect editing experience in realtime. I am not sure if the BM ATEM Mini Pro supports Prores

the beauty about ATOMOS is that you can insert a 2.5" SSD which then allows you to transfer files to PC real fast, My PC has a hotswap bay for SSD and I can transfer at 520MB/sec

once you get a MB Mini Monitor 4k, you also need to get an AMP and speakers so you can go from Mini mon 4k via HDMI to AMP, and from AMP via HDMI to 4k mon. This will ensure perfect lip sync

Ok, Anton, you have really opened my eyes to some new things here.
I have the BM Mini Monitor 4K coming in a couple days, and will look into the Atomos. I saw Blackmagic also has a viewer/recorder, but I imagine the Atomos will be more robust.

and if you want to splurge on Atomos, you can get the one with 4 x SDI inputs which allows recording of 4 cameras simultaneously, so no more need of syncing clips on the timeline, all clips will be in perfect sync from every camera, I use this for shooting multicam during dance concerts

Anton, that sounds like an excellent setup for multi-cam! (Would give me a reason to use the multi-cam feature of Edius. I do 2-cam at most, so I just edit the regular way.)

I have just installed my new Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K. :)
I have a preview up - looks good! I just notice that it takes a slight bit longer to pop up a frame than it does using one of the extra monitor ports on my video card.
So I'll dig into the "Desktop Video Setup" application and see if I need to adjust any settings on the Mini Monitor.

When I use the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K, I have no audio.

Did some digging in the settings but surprisingly didn't see a place to specify to use my Focusrite 2i2 USB interface like before.
I'll keep digging, because I at least remember being able to specify an input audio device for voiceover, so there should be a setting somewhere for audio output.

Nevermind...

I found out that when using the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K, I can no longer use my audio as normal.
I'll have to get it from the HDMI out of the DeckLink. :/ That's a major disappointment if there's a downstep in audio quality and/or latency.

I use the Mini Mon 4k and it has perfect sound

Mini Mon 4k via HDMI to Yamaha Amp with EV Studio Monitor Speakers and from Yamaha to TV via HDMI

Most Yamaha Home Amps have 4 HDMI inputs and one out, so you can connect several HDMI devices like Blu-ray Player etc.

and most TVs have optical audio out, so you could connect that to an AMP that does not have HDMI because it most likely has optical in

either way, you will have perfect lip sync

Incidentally, we have a Yamaha receiver amp setup for our TV. It looks to be able to support what we're talking about here.

However, I was able to try an 1/8"-to-dual RCA connector and get sound on my studio monitors.

I also realized... I can simply plug my headphones into the TV/monitor. Problem solved. :)
(Then switch to monitors for final previews. I don't like editing 100% in headphones.)

If you want to use a 5.1/7.1 sound system with Edius and set for Dolby ProLogic and the timeline is stereo you need an audio extractor in line like Southsky and set it to stereo then the amp ProLogic will work, (Edius outputs 8 PCM audio channels over HDMI which will defeat Prologic) this gives speech/mono out of centre speaker stereo FX out of left/right speakers, great for detecting any audio channel misbalance.
