  • Grading outside of Edius

So I have been working on a multicam Edius project the last week which I’ve sent to the client with a rough grade (slog3 Sony and BRAW rushes - 8 camera) - but it looks like they want it all graded properly and I don’t think I’m quite up to going through it again and tweaking it!

Now normally I could export to an AAF for Davinci, but the project has a LOT of layout tools used for reframing shots which I want to retain. How can I do this? Rendering shots first?
Is there a preference for output codecs so there is still lots of RAW and Log information in the rendered files (bearing in mind it’s half RAW half slog? What settings would I have the project in and export files settings to hold all the data.

I just want the easiest method for someone else to grade nicely.

The most convenient method is: export to Davinci with AAF export and complete the grading over the original camera clips. Take the final export as Individual Clips and take the clips sequentially to the timeline in your Edius project and put them on the top layer. Transfer the adjustments (layout) you make to the clips from the original clip to the colored clip.

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean. I can’t export to davinci as I’ll loose all of the layout moves. Can you explain the process? Do you mean to grade on everything full frame and then reapply all the layout effect back in Edius after?

Let's not say re-apply, let's say placing the layout setting of the modified clips on the colored clip.
(I may not have been able to explain it fully because my main language is not English.)

Ah I see. It could be a long process though. There are about 2000 cuts in the full 2 hour show!

Grade on everything full frame and then 'replace' all the layout effect back in Edius.

It's not a big deal for SLOG, but if you don't want to lose the RAW feature of clips, there is no other solution as far as I know.
