  • applying mask filter

im trying to put a smooth blur over just someones mouth. i seem to remember that you use mask for this, i click inside filter, i draw a rectangle around the area to be blurred and then i pick smooth blur and adjust it. nothing happens...
i thought this was how its done, i seem to remember last time i did it after i drew the rectangle, you saw the dotted lines stay there, then apply the blur, thats not happening either, has to be something simple im missing]
    thanks

You should use Gaussian Blur. The effect will show up in the Mask preview monitor but you have to set it up. In the Mask Box look at the top buttons (icons) and find Function (looks like a Grid). When opened click on the first 2 options (you have to do one at a time). One allows the effects to be seen, the other allows the alpha channel checkerboard to be seen.
