  • Edius Pro 8.53 - Editing 4K 3840x2160 - film slow sound stuttering

    I now have a Sony A6500 camera and even editing a short one minute length 4K file is just impossible, because even after rendering which takes about nearly 6 minutes, if I make any small change the slow film and stuttering is back. Is this because my computer is not up to 4K editing (info below)?

    I know the Edius Workgroup has the function to lower the viewing screen resolution, but is there a workaround for that in my Pro version?

    in the EDIUS bin, convert any or all such clips to Grass Valley HQX and they will play realtime and editing will be smooth

    some UHD files are H265 and even my PC with 32 cores can struggle, but in EDIUS9 or X you can lower preview resolution to get better realtime

    can you provide a screenshot of your project settings and a screenshot of such a UHD clip as viewed with mediainfo (free) in tree view in order to spot possible config issue

      Thanks Anton. I don't know what a UHD clip is, but presume its just the 4K file and I guess you have photoshop so the attached file is a psd with 4 layers of which 3 are from Mediainfo.
      Its nearly 0230 hours here in the UK and so I have to go to bed now as I'm up again in 5 hours time so if you answer, it will be some time before I can answer any more questions.

      Looks like the attachment upload does not like psd files and so I have now uploaded 4 jpg files.

        3840x2160 = UHD (it is not 4k)

        you are shooting UHD 50p and editing UHD 50p, your PC will not handle that unless you convert the clips to HQX

        your project setting is set to 8 channel audio = 7.1 surround sound

        I think you should set to stereo, 2 channel

        attached are the correct project settings

            If you are using 8bit H.265, the 6700k should decode that.
            Converting to HQX will help quite a bit. If it is still sluggish, you can change your 3840x2160 50p project by adding Lanczos 3 Hi Quality in the settings.
            Then change the frame size to 1920x1080. This will help with playback. When you have completed the editing, just change the frame size
            back to 3840x2160 and export.
            There is also an Edius 8.53 update available.
